Default Dechroming rear light surround

Has anyone attempted this? I like chrome in small doses, but I'm thinking the rear lights might look nice with a black satin trim to match the window surrounds.

What do you think?

I don't have a chance to look at my taillight surround, but I believe they are plastic chrome plated. They can be refinished, There is a special primer that you spray on chrome that will let paint stick to chrome. DuPont is one of the manufacturer and I sure there are others.

Do you know if the chrome surround can be removed from the light cluster? This would make painting a lot easier.

I honestly don't know it's been about a year and a half since I took them off, but I don't think they can be separated. I believe it's one unit. If you paint them use DuPont's green or blue masking tape they seem to hold up the best.

On my right rear tail light the chrome piece is broken. It's barely noticeable, but it snags the towel as I'm drying the car. I'd like to find a replacement. Any ideas where I can buy just the chrome trim?

I think you should leave it as it because chrome itself is so brilliant item

Sam
I don't think you can. It's list as one unit in the crash manual. I'm not certain that it actually separates from the light unit.

The chrome trim is removable, it is held in place by some melted over plastic pegs, you would have to drill these through.

I know someone who has done it

On my black car, the chrome surrounds look nice. However, the picture XKRacer posted looks great without it.

That is awesome XKRacer! That is the one thing I didn't like about the newer jewel style tail lights. Now I'm seriously thinking about an upgrade. I'll add it to my list
