differential
I am trying to understand what differential is used in my 2000 xkr.
i have found that jag used dana 44's a long time ago and there is also a off shoot known as a "Salsbury". Does this apply to my 00? or is there some other unit used on my generation of xk8/r??
Thanks

I'm almost certain that it's a variation of the ford 8.8 rear. The same one used in mustangs and lincoln ls's. It uses a different carrier than mustangs, so if your planning on installing a cobra lsd or something similar, some modifications are necessary.
i was thinking about it as i am starting to get some noise from my rear end after a good long drive, i need to get the fluid changed.
if i have to rebuild it, i want to put lsd in there. But there has got to be a way to do the rebuild/mod without having to order jag parts.
they want WAY WAY to much money for dif parts.

Jag didn't do a limited slip for your car. This discussion resurfaces from time to time, here is a recent thread from people in the know:

Dana was XJS, the one used in your car may in fact be referred to as a Salisbury but I don't know. I can check to verify fitment for your car, but I believe the XJ8 uses the identical diff. PM me if you need more info, good used ones are relatively cheap.

Thank you jag tech.
I am interested in figment for this car as i have been unable to find any info concerning the xk series at all on the net. I have searched several jag forums. It would be nice to know which rear end is under my car.
Thanks

Chances are the unit itself is from DANA in the UK, at least that is someone saying at pistonheads.com, and I have seen the wording DANA on the gearing , not sure if that will help you. Gearing is the most expensive, if that is the case better to look for a low mileage 2nd hand one.
I think the units are the same X308 cars with 3.06 gear ratio, but the 2003-2006 XKRs have a 2.87 gear ratio.
Andre.

if you look at this pic, it leads me to believe that this is NOT a dana. if it is its the strangest design i have ever seen.

We'll see if this link works, this is from 1995-1997 XJ6 and shows "Powr-lok", which is what Jaguar calls there limited slip differentials:
http://www.captainjaguarscathouse.co...f_4/2_E_16.tif
That lists 3.27 as the supercharged unit, and also shows 3.58, 3.77, and 4.09 gears.
Here's the exploded view and parts list:

I'll see what else I can find out...
