Default Door Handle Rubber Gasket

My 2000 XK8 has suffered the effects of the sun. Both door handle rubber gaskets have deteriorated and parts of them have come off. I called the dealership and was told that the gasket can not be purchased without the entire door handle. The door handle is $761 EACH!!!! I chose not to spend $1522 for such a minor cosmetic problem. Has anyone tried to repair their broken door handle gaskets using Permatex? I'll take some pictures and post them later today.

You will need to purchase JLM-12035/kit. I found it at Coventrywest. The gaskets come in a kit (as the name implies) both right and left door, about $80. You need to remove the door handles and install the new gaskets. I posted a repair on this subject called "drivers door, outside handle removal"

Thanks. Once again, bad and very expensive information from the dealer.

The dealer doesn't have the rubber trim/weathersealing separately, its an aftermarket item. A good niche too. Dealer parts don't deserve the bashing this time.

You know I'm glad you posted this, A friend of mine was was knocking the Jag for it's peeling gaskets the other day, and I had not yet begun to research a solution. I love it when an answer to a question I haven't asked lands in my lap. Thanks!!

Itspec did a good job with the instructions, but if someone wants to document the removal/reinstall with some visual aids (you got it...pics!) then add it here, or his other thread that he started. <- and FAQ'd for future use
