Default Door lock question - RESOLVED

Getting to know my recently acquired XK8 convertible

according to owners manual pressing the red button on the remote locks the car and arms the alarm. I get the flashing light, light on the shifter console etc. However I can still open the door. I hear a beeping which will set off the alarm unless I use the unlock button

But is the system operating as it should if I can open the door?

Also when putting the car in drive should the doors automatically lock?

Randy,

1) no not normal. Sounds like door doesn't lock with alarm activation. Look in from outside, does inside handle move in with arming alarm, out with disarm? It should.

Get in car, start it up. Press handle in, can you reach out and open door with outside handle? (Assumption: press inside handle in, it stays in.) Checking to see if lock works at all here.

2) lock in drive is a software option set at dealer. It can be either way.

No, no door handle movement. Alarm is activating because opening the door causes the alarm to go off. Would there be a fuse I could check for the door lock?

Default Maybe push rods in the door latch mechanism

Randy

I would first check the push rods within the door mechanism are seated. GGG previously sent out this pic.

Randy, how about that part about manually pushing interior handle in, reaching over to outside handle. Is door locked / can't open?

This will help decide: electrical or mechanical.

Let's not forget that the same thing is happening to both doors. Leads me to: Why aren't the door lock actuators getting any signal ever?

What the hell: Randy please confirm that key in door produces same failed results.

John

Fuse: check fuse #4 5 amp passenger side (open door, see dashboard vertical surface & fuse box). Control locking mechanism.

Check fuses #15 25 amp on both passenger and driver sides. Control module for each door.

Good eye Randy, I missed that one in the fuse chart.

Hey, if not too much trouble, could you do the test to see if inside door handle can manually lock that door? (Push inside handle in, does outside handle open door?) That way we can file that away for future help and testing.

I am curious. You say its in the shop because of the Green Shower. Did you take it to a dealership? Hope you dont mind me asking but how much do they charge? Are they going to use genuine Jag hoses or others? Doing both lines or one?

Your the first one I have found who has taken their car in to have it done. Would love to know how you get on. Thanks!!

I took the car to an independent British car repair shop. They did the pre purchase inspection. I read thru the DIY post and it was probably dIY doable. I am 75 with 2 knee replacements and it is getting harder and harder for some projects. Also this is my winter home so I am building up my tool inventory slowly! My concern was damaging some of the 16 year old plastic trim pieces. They used top hydraulics hoses and charged $1300. Another shop that I have no experience with also quoted $1300. I bought this car knowing there is no such thing as a cheap Jaguar

😊
