Default Door Seal/Trim

Hi Guys
Ever since having my xk8 convertible the drivers door trim/seal along top edge of door appeared to have corrosion between trim and seal and now when i put window up it rolls the seal with it. Have took trim off and is absolutely shot.My question is does a new seal come with metal trim afixed or are they seperate, and also is this a main dealer only part(dread to think how much).
Thanks for any help
vic

I believe they are separate parts. Probably a dealer item. Check Gaudin Jaguar for parts & pricing.

If you mean this (yours will be gray), it's the Waist Rail and is horrendously expensive:

The problem is the original parts were badly primed and that's why they corrode. Despite looking dreadful, they can often be brought back from the dead! Check this link for refinishing them:

Mine looked fit for scrap but refinished perfectly and are still unmarked.

I had a similar problem with mine. Not only had the outer face corroded, the metal bonded within the rubber had corroded and I thought they were only fit for the bin. With nothing to lose I had a go at repairing them. In parts, the rubber had 'blown' away from the metal, which had corroded badly. Where I could, I prised the rubber away from the metal and removed as much of the powdery corrosion as I could. I then stripped the paint from the outer metal and primed with etch primer, before a top coat (Dorchester Grey) and lacquer.

After a couple of days, I bonded the rubber back to the metal with contact adhesive. The result is not perfect, but it is a lot better than it was. I will see how long it lasts.

The following photos show the problem and the process:

The door and quarter window trims are fairly easy to take off - no mechanical fixings, basically friction. I am assured that the one around the windscreen is a different matter. In theory, it can be removed, but is retained by plastic clips. If any of these break in the removal process, it's a windscreen-out job to replace them.
Mine were just as bad as Renaultvation's.

Welcome to the forum Paul,

The chances of successfully removing a bonded windscreen without either cracking it or scratching the bodywork around the aperture are low. I'd be surprised if any professional would undertake this unless you first sign a damage waiver.

On a related topic, the window sealing rubbers on both the coupe and convertible bubble up due to the aluminium core coroding.

I have sourced suitable profile neoprene sealing strips which can easily be fitted in place of the original. I have them available via ebay.
