Has anyone actually removed or replaced their door striker? As shown in diagram below. Thanks

 

It is pretty straight forward operation. Just 2 TORX screws really tight holding it in place.

 

I've removed/refitted every other part shown in the diagram but not the striker. The only time I've removed strikers was on an XJ6 for a colour change. Why do you need to take it off?

I got some clean ones from a salvage yard to replace my rusty ones a few years ago.

 

I sustained some damage to the hinge of the car. The hinge was removed. Repaired and reinforced and put back. Shut lovely. Now I suspect the door has dropped slightly again however I think the striker is masking the drop by lifting the door into position when its closed. I want to remove the striker so I can see if it is truly out of position. Also RD has given me the idea of repainting them whilst they are off too.

Just found out via another forum, good these forums, the striker plate is surrounded by a frame. By removing the two torx bolts it will, hopefully, just drop into that frame. So it should be safe to remove the two bolts without fear of it disappearing behind the B pillar.

Got to wait for the rain and high winds to stop now.

Jim's photo in post #4 shows the marks of a misaligned door on the striker (old one on the right). It can eventually cut a shiny groove into the striker where the lock is lifting (or dropping) the door over it to engage instead of the latch just being moved against the spring.

I had actually worked that one out. Did you spot the rust too?
