Unhappy Double Sided Supercharger Belt Loose

Hi all,

I just got finished fitting a double sided belt on the supercharger as an upgrade as the old one needed replaced so thought it would be an ideal time. I also replaced the idler pulley to the required grooved type but after removing my tool from the tensioner the belt seems to be too loose and slightly oscillates which can be seen in the linked video, obviously something isn't correct. I don't think it is the tensioner as it previously worked fine on the old belt. Is there something I'm missing for the upgrade? I presumed it was only the idler I had to replace.

Thanks!

Did you buy the complete kit of parts for the x100 4.2 XKR ?
The tensioner and pulley are a new type - you cannot cut corners and just change the pulley, you need a complete kit !
Mine came with a double sided belt, upgraded tensioner arm and a new idler assembly. See pic

I did not... I just purchased the belt and ribbed pulley, didn't expect a difference in the other parts if I'm honest. Think I'll just purchase a standard belt and put it back to the way it was in that case. Thanks for the clarification though Stumpy, probably the reason for the loose fit is that there is a difference in dimensions on both the idler bracket and the tensioner, my fault for assuming there wouldn't be.

Are you 100% sure the belt was routed correctly? Use this belt diagram for reference.

This would be my first step before buying a new belt.

I can definitely confirm that the belt is routed correctly, but many thanks for the diagram. I did the serpintine belt a couple of months ago when I did some maintenance on the cooling system so could get plenty of access after removing the radiator.

Just now I'm doing the supercharger belt with everything in place using a tool I made up myself (basically a bar with a bolt head ground down to a 1/2" square drive welded to the face) so that I can do it without removing everything again at the front of the engine.

We were issued a 'special-tool' when I worked at the dealer so I 'sorta' replicated it.

A piece of 1/2" square stock welded to a flat bar but you should bend the end to engage the tensioner at the angle.
