Default Doug DeMuro reviews XK8

A nice coupe with full size spare wheel. Interesting to hear Doug's opinion - he certainly gets the 'GT ethos' of the XK8.
Quite interesting and some comedy. Informative for new owners. Makes you real proud to own one....

He does need more education on 'VALET MODE'.

Along with the etymology of the x100 platform. At least he doesn't claim that the AJ26 is a Ford engine!

Also if you’re talking about interior quirks, how can you skip the door locks? Took me a trip to the manual to figure those out. I generally find Doug’s videos to be on the annoying side, he’s a little over the top for me. I actually like his writing much better.

Didn't he proclaim very loudly that there would never be a mid engine corvette?
To me, he has an arrogance that is meant to tell the world of his automotive knowledge, which is really lacking.

I didn't realize the XK8 "wallowed" so much in the turns, and who has 5 wheels and a full-size spare tire ? Must have been the early models. (and was it a front spare or a rear spare ?)

To be fair I do have an XKR and it's a 2004 model but mine has very little body role if any that I can detect.

Might be due to 24 year old shocks? Buy why mention that?

Well there is the difference between SPORT SUSPENSION, CATS AND COMFORT SUSPENSION.

I had an XK8 convertible without CATS and now have an XKR coupe with CATS. I can tell you that when pushing it, the XKR with CATS has noticeably less body roll, is more composed, and handles better. It is stiffer as well but also softer. How much of that is down to the suspension vs the convertible/coupe difference, I don't know

Also, my CATS shocks are from the R-performance package.

Shall we give him a hint were we've seen the "very different" Jaguar/Aston Martin key before ...?

That car has the 17 inch wheels which are the same size and use the same tires on all four wheels, so you can keep a full size spare and use on any of the four wheels. I would cheerfully use one as a full size spare, or a 17 inch steel wheel, still better than a donut/space saver.

check the tire pressure chart on your center console/armrest - you will see the 17 inch option is square all round.

When he reviewed the DB7 convertible he referred to the complimentary car from Jaguar (implied clearly the XK8 without saying it) as "down rent".

I guess that he is getting desperate for material.

In all fairness when he was still living in New Jersey i offered my sorted, stock version for a review. He was polite in the return email.

He has a familiar smugness which has increased since he went West Coast.

Giving him the benefit of the doubt, I still believe he's excited about every car he is reviewing. On a daily basis, however, I find JayEmm easier on the ear.
