Default Driver door transplant - RESOLVED

In the 3 years I have been on the forum I have not seen any post about removing a complete door.

This is my plan.
The door on the 00xk8 has a big dent in it, it was this way when I bought it. Also the door cable is broke so that you need to roll down the window and open the door from the inside latch.
I have the 97xk8 donor car with a good door. I want to take the door from the 97 and put it on the 00.
Has anyone removed a door before? Are there things I need to look out for and are there any tips to make the job easier.

Thanks,

Amazingly JTIS doesn't include the procedure although I'd expect it just to be tedious rather than complex.

One thing to check is there's a LH door P/N change at VIN A11050 from FJA3029AE to FJE3029AA. However, the door skin P/N remains the same throughout so this may only be a slight door frame design change and not be a show stopper.

I have a 00 door on an 03, the front fit is a bit off, dont know if it is a difference in the door or the person who fit the door.. would love to know the answer...

Thanks Graham for trying to research for me. I did find a post from 2011 that help me with the door removal, no I didn't respond to the 2011 thread 😉. First remove the inside door trim, remove the speaker, and remove the door module. This gives you access to the three bolts on the inside of the door for each hinge. Before removing the hinge nuts remove the 10mm nut that holds the door stop to the chassis and disconnect the doors wire harness from the chassis, it unscrews counterclockwise. I removed the door hinge nuts first and it made a PITA to get the door stop nut off, learned my lesson.
I have the donor door off now and will remove the door from the 00 tomorrow and install the donor door.
FYI. Luckily the donor door is the same color as the 00. I plan on repainting the whole car but that will be at a later time.

TRANSPLANT COMPLETE. 👨*⚕️

Generally everything went smoothly. I changed the door module that was in the donor door to the module that was originally in the car, the part number was different. I took the door handle from the 00 door and put it on the donor door, so the ignition and door key will be the same. I changed the mirror on the door because the one on the 00 was in better shape.
