Default driver window goes back up when door is opened

Kim just got in and said she could not shut the drivers door.

I had a look.

When the door is opened the glass drops a bit as normal but when the door opening handle is released it goes back up. It should stay down till the door is closed again, but because it is now up the door will not close.

I tried the widow up/down for 5 seconds reset but the problem remains.

I also noticed that when the door is open and the external handle is pulled, the glass goes down a bit but goes back up when released.

The passenger door/glass is operating normally.

Has anyone got a fix for this issue?

There seems to be a rash of these switch problems... hope it's not catching.

You have a sticky switch, have a look at this JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource it might help.

Note that Sam gave himself unneccessary problems disconnecting the link shown in the image in post #4 and broke it!

Slide the black collar down and the rod can simply be pulled out of the lower section without any damage.

There is also the real part from Jaguar (C2N1908) as Graham notes in post #25 of that thread. More expensive, but less craftsmanship required to make it work.

I spotted that after ordering the Omron item which with postage ended up more expensive than the Jag version.

I fitted the Omron switch today.

Here are a few learnings.

Put the window fully up when removing the anti tamper cover.

If you plan to discard the anti tamper cover, you need to refit the 7mm bolt as it is also used to hold the door handle mechanism in place.

I didn't have any small machine screws to hold the new microswitch in place so I used a couple of 2.5mm wood screws, however so is not to damage the switch I sanded down the thread so it would just catch on the mounting holes on the switch.

Start the job in the morning as if you delay till the afternoon it is likely to be dark by the time you finish.
