Default Driver's Door Open Indication

Hi Guys!

I have a "Driver's Door Open" indication that won't go out. Of course, because of that the doors won't lock while driving and the window doesn't go up the extra little bit when I get in and close the door.

Sound familiar to anyone?

I can't see where the door-closed signal would come from, unless it's that rubber plug on the sill just above the the lock catch.

Thanks in advance!

Jim M.

The "Door Closed" Switch is located in the Latch/Lock Assembly inside of the Door. The Micro Switch is one of several switches on the assembly and is a known failure item.

To access the Latch/Lock Assembly, the Door panel must be removed.

Thanks Paul,

I just watched the respective videos - shouldn't be too hard a job once I get a new latch. It does seem as if the "Market" has responded to the video as well - the $10 eBay latch he bought for the video is now well over $100 used! Has anyone ever tried to replace the micro switch itself (ala Radio Shack)?

BTW: Is there a difference between pre and post '03 latches? Some of the eBay sellers are listing them as "'97 to '02". Can I use one of those?

I also thought "this" was strange: My interior lights are "not" on despite the car thinking that the door is open. Is that controled by a different switch?

Thanks!

Does anyone in the SOMD area have a bad door latch I could steal? I think I'd like to "play" with one before I go in to replace it.

Just send me an message or post here.

Thanks!

send Gus a PM, he's already dissected one of those...IIRC. If anyone can give you hope of finding another source for them, he will let you know.

britishparts.co.uk lists at least one of the three switches

Do yourself a favor and hold off on pulling the door apart. Take a little WD40 and spray it into the door latch mechanism and work the door a few times. Yes the door has a few micro switches and they can be replaced but not using RadioShack. I will provide a link showing the door latch and the micro switches, I will also provide a link for correct replacement switches if you need them.

Link D2SW-3L3MS Omron Electronics | Mouser

Try the WD40 first many of the problem with the door latches are related to the lack of lubrication and corrosion and not a failed micro switch. However, it is possible.

Default Thanks!

OUTSTANDING! You guys are great. Now this is the of help "any" auto community needs for it's enthusiasts. I'll try the WD/PB starting tonight and give it a few days to take effect. I'll be back with the results. Having alternative sources for the latches and switches is a real help.

THANKS!

Default Much Better!

Thanks guys. The WD did the trick (for now). Someday, when I'm in an especially masochistic mood ( ), I might go into the doors and do some preventative work based on various forum discussions.

THANKS AGAIN! - Jim M.

Kudos to Scardini for making the fix. Kudos also to Gus for suggesting the obvious! I may go spray some on my doors just as a preventative step.

Thank you all. I have this same problem today because for the last week, each day my car is under 6 inches of snow. Rather than take anything apart I will now manipulate the door handle and latch mechanism when the temperature increases a little.
Great Forum...Thanks Guys.

If you look in the HOW-TOs there's a thread including replacement of the switch and various sources for it (about $10)
