Driver's window dropping

Driver's window dropping
The window on my 1998 XK-8 was down about half an inch when I got into the car this morning and was down almost as much when I came out from work this evening. It closes beautifully but then seems to want to lower slightly right after. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.

It means the window lost its limit memory. Usually caused by a poorly charged or weak battery.
To fix it:
Make sure battery is good and fully charged.
With doors closed turn ignition to accessory position.
Run window all the way down and hold button until you hear a faint click.
Run window all the way up and hold button until you hear a faint click.
Sometimes you have to do it twice but first time usually does the trick.

I have no idea GT. This was one of those times when I bought a low mileage car that had absolutely no service records. I'm going through the car to establish a baseline as far as fluids and maintenance are concerned however. Once finished I'll be able to relax a bit.

I needed to revisit this thread as I've found that my battery is very good but I still have the same problem. The battery is less than two years old, I had it tested and it's in fine shape. Yet every time I open the door the window goes down further and further unless I take action. Now that the battery has been eliminated as the cause where should one look next? Thanks all.

Reestablish the memory limits one more time.
The window motors pull a lot of current and that draws the battery voltage down which is why the battery is always suspect. Check the battery voltage with the headlights on for a couple minutes without the motor running. Should be no less than 12.4v. Check the battery voltage operating the windows with the engine off. Again, should be no less than 12.4v.
If battery condition is not the problem then the next place to look is to the micro switches in the door lock but that is usually work or don't work.
Everything you describe are the exact symptoms of losing the window memory due to low voltage.

American,
OUR 1998s are a bit different than later models re door wire circuit.
Let's eliminate the door switch. Does the puddle light come on? If yes, focus on previous suggestions. If no: Does display show passenger door open when it is ? If yes, you have a burned out puddle bulb. If no, your door switch is not working the car thinks door is shut. Each time you use the handle it drops window to clear the window seal. Hope it is just relearning window position like others suggested, but wanted you to have this test too. John
