Default DSC Fault....again

Hi All,

I thought I'd seen the back of the DSC fault, but it's rearing its ugly head again.

It came back recently, and as the car was going for a service with my local mechanic, thought I'd wait for him to diagnose and repair it.

He found using his fault reader that the problem was coming from the front left wheel speed sensor, so he replaced it, and it seemed that the problem had gone away.

Annoyingly, it came back on today. I do still get the 'DSC Fault' flashing up as a crank the car from time to time - so suspect it's still an issue, however the battery is new (under a year old!)

Its going back to the garage tonight to get the code read - but does can anyone pre-empt and guess what the problem may be?

Thanks,
James

My 2005 would show DSC fault when I started it as well. I was also having some strange gremlins like my windows constantly needed reprogramming. I saw you said you battery was new, but replacing mine with a high end AGM battery made all the problems go away. Jags are very voltage sensitive, so if you don't have a really high quality battery, even a small voltage drop can cause you problems. Not much to go on, but hope it helps.

Its a fairly high quality battery - I had it ordered through my local garage who got a recommended battery spec for the car..

However- on a battery related note -could the battery not being secured down be a potential cause for issues?

Edit - also whilst we're on a related topic, and it may be useful the the diagnoses (or not).

I think this is standard on all cars; the steering wheel when set to the Auto setting, is able to retract and automatically extend itself back to the usual driving position when the key is placed in the ignition. Usually this works fine, however occasionally (well more than occasionally now I think about it) it will extend, and then go to move downward but then stop moving - so I have to re-make the adjustment manually. - Could this be related?

If it come up LF wheel sensor fault again ...

Focus on the wiring harness section and the connectors which fall between the wheel sensor and the main harness. Cleaning, reseating the connectors, and doing a resistance check while exercising the steering or wiggling the harness section.

It is more likely that the harness has failed than the sensor, but the code does not differentiate. I had the same thing happen, the light came on, the dealer said that the sensor and harness needed replacing but the warranty company would only pay for the sensor. A few days later, the light came back on, and I replaced the harness for about $35. The warranty company paid for the $500 part when they could have gotten by for $35 if they knew what they were doing. Its the harness with its tiny wires that flexes constantly, the sensor just sits there.

Well took the car for a code read last night - it was indeed the left front again - I'll mention the harness to my mechanic and see if he thinks it may be worth replacing. His initial idea is to move the sensor from the left to the right and see if the fault moves with the sensor - I guess its a good idea just before we start shelling out ££££s

In other news it looks like the code reader has also figured out my brake sensor is broken, so got another one to install.... oh the joys!

When I was having trouble with mine I switched the front cables. It doesn't take very long and that will clearly identify a break in the wiring. The sensors themselves do not often fail.

I was getting the DSC fault intermittently. Dealer showed left front wheel sensor and wheel (steering) sensor. Changed left front. Everything OK for a couple of weeks. Then DSC fault again. Steering sensor a few hundred bucks. I noticed the steering wheel was not centered when car driving straight. 10 degrees +- off center. Realigned front end with steering wheel straight. Been almost 9 months no DSC fault. Jack
