A Dummy attempts a HID Headlight Conversion
As we all know, the stock headlights on our cars are abysmal at best, and repairing the adjusters, polishing the lens, putting in the brightest bulbs I could find and having the headlights professionally aimed did not make much of an improvement while driving on a recent rainy night. I decided to upgrade my headlights, purchased a high-quality HID conversion kit (Maxlux) and attempted to do the conversion with the headlights out of the car and on my workbench. I found that the HID bulbs are larger with a thicker base than the Halogen bulbs, and found that the existing clips could not be made to secure the HID bulbs in place using the existing wire clip (see pictures below). I did a search on the forum and found one post which suggested that the clips could somehow be modified to work (remember I did say I was a dummy). Has anyone done this or a similar modification or an alternative method that could help me with this?
Thanks,
HID bulb on the left, Halogen bulb on the right.. Note the size difference.
Conventional Halogen bulb clipped in place.
HID bulb too wide and thick for the spring clips to secure it in place

Max I successfully changed mine. I used a different brand tell me if you want a link. The bulb should fit normally, things get interesting with the wires.
HID bulbs require 3 wires, 12volt, ground, and a high voltage wire to get them going. I had to notch out a space for the new harness in the black plastic weather seal piece.
the spring clips worked on mine as I recall. I'll go back and look at my post in case I'm forgetting anything. Will copy past a link if I find good info.

just went back and looked. You must orientate the protrusion vertical to allow the spring clips to get to the notches. No photos, but read the link in case something helps you out Max.
