Default E-02 CD Changer Code

My CD changer in my 2005 XKR has ceased to work and is giving a E-02 code. The radio works just fine. Is anyone familiar with this problem and the possible fix?

Thanks

You could always try the instructions in the forums for taking the changer apart and cleaning/lubricating the mechanicals inside, it wouldn't cost you anything to try that.

I'm unsure what E-02 actually refers too.

E-02 or E02 is a universal code for CD Players and DVD Players alike. It means; The disc is scratched or dirty, or the cd laser lens is dirty and cannot focus.

Thanks for the replies. I pulled the unit today and plan to have a local audio shop bench test it tomorrow. I was wondering, if the unit is shot can another brand of unit be installed...and work? I have checked on the OEM replacement and the price is ludicrous.

Regards

Tim: you will need a Jag CD changer; others will not work. See this thread: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=41573

You can find a used one in a salvage yard or ebay for under $100. I'm guessing a good cleaning n lube is definitely worth a shot.

I thought I would take a moment to follow up on this post. I decided to pull the CD changer and take it to the local audio shop to see if they could ascertain the problem. Well, when I walked into the audio shop with the changer and asked accordingly I got the "deer in the headlights" look and the reply that I either needed to take it to a Jag dealer or buy a new changer. Not even a "well we can take a look see".

When I got home I decided that I would remove the shroud on the changer and work my way through the problem myself. I know nothing about CD changers and I am not an electronics expert. However, once the internal workings were exposed it was rather easy to isolate the problem to a "sticky" gear mechanism. With very little effort I had the unit working again. I plan to to do a thorough mechanism clean and re-grease and then clean the optics. I found a website that provides excellent guidance on trouble shooting and fixing CD changers.

I could have purchased a new unit but the idea of getting hosed to the tune of $800-$900 by Jaguar was just too much. It's the principal of the thing. Moreover, it is really disappointing today how most retail outlets lack staff with the ability and/or incentive to do simple repairs on the things that they are supposed to be expert at.

If there is any interest I would be happy to post a few pics of the unit and the process.

Thanks for the help.

Tim

Please post some pictures. And yes, I agree, it's rediculous that no one seems to know how to repair anything any more. Not to mention that look at the $$$ the shop lost. If they had done what you did and handed you a bill for $100. you'd have been happy to pay it.

Any procedure with pictures and instructions is greatly appreciated here. Please do!! It will probably end up in the "Stickies".

This information was from another site, I performed the repair last year was really easy. My CD player had the same symptoms . Pull back carpeting from cd changer. remove 4 small Phillip head screws to remove changer. Disconnect pin connector and remove unit from trunk. remove the 6 small Phillip head screws from cd player casing. Gently separate the rear of the casing (gently pry away tabs near main wire). Open the unit like a clam shell at the back of the changer. Using a flashlight illuminate the internals. Spray a SMALL amount of lubricant (I used white lithium grease with long skinny straw attachment) onto the exposed gears and levers inside the unit. Temporarily plug unit into the wire harness and test before re-install.
I'm not much on photography, but if someone would document the procedure it would be very helpful
