Default Engine # and build date

I am looking to purchase a 2002 XKR. vin#sajda42b720a27067. I am told that by using this vin# a dealer of other shop can tell me what the engine build date is ...and most importantly...if it was built with plastic camchain tensioners that can crack and cause severe damage. I wont purchase the vehicle until this question is answered. I'm ready to join the Jaguar "family".

Hi and welcome.
If the VIN is actually SAJDA42B72PA27067, then ETIS gives a build date of 22.11.2001. This is fairly close to the changeover date for metal tensioners, which is mid-August 2001, so the motor could still have plastic.

Either way, a dealer should be able to give you the number of the original engine, from which you can determine which side of the changeover date it was manufactured. You would need to cross-reference that number to the one actually in the car to confirm it is indeed the original.

Failing that, unless you have documentary evidence that the tensioners have been replaced, you must assume that they haven't.

HTH,
Mike

The engine number is stamped in the block. I have checked the number on a couple of 2000 SC engines and it is not easy to find. It will be on top of the block at the left front. It's necessary to crawl on top of the engine and use a flashlight to see it.

They changed the location at some point, but I don't recall when or where. Hopefully another member can help.

The engine date will be behind the left side mount, will have to see it from underneath vehicle, not the easiest place to see. My 02 XKR with MFD Date of 9/01 A25578 has engine build date 01/06/27. So it could go either way, Good luck. My understanding is the metal tensioners started at 01/08/13.

Thumbs up Motor build date and Tensioner style

Thanks again for answers to my questions.
I called dealership with vin# and the reply was that motor # was
PA0111011637
the # was visually verified by a mechanic using a scope to get to it and then shooting pics of the #.
So.....can someone please tell me if my 2002 xkr has 2nd generation tensioners.

Is the correct date...year: 2001 /Month: November/ Day: 1....?

I am ready to purchase tomorrow if I can get a kind quick reply from anyone.
