With my recent R&R overhaul of the front engine coolant system, I previously discovered that the connector for the engine coolant temp. sensor, on the cross over pipe, had broken and the previous owner had used a mastic mess to hold it. At the time, I had to cut it out carefully with a dremel to put in the new coolant cross over pipe with new sensor, and did a temporary duct taped solution.
So began my hunt for a new connector. Firstly my local garage mechanic, who works on Range Rovers, ordered me a AMP 2 WAY ECONOSEAL EJ MALE & FEMALE WATERPROOF CONNECTOR PLUG KIT at BHD6 (USD17). Close but wrong! Later, a fellow forum member then posted his recent fix at this connection, and he was kind enough to post me a spare (or2!) in a nifty Green colour and that fitted correctly. Correct Spec of part is:
TE Econoseal type 070 EJ MK-2, part # 2822362-4
Pic - Left side is the old ECTS and correct green connector. Right side is the wrong 2 Way TE Econoseal EJ. Not too bothered, as I'll keep it as I'm sure I'll find a use for it (IP67 rated!).
So onto the car and the fit up took only 10 min, where I chose to dismantle the remainder of the old connector and reuse the pins.
I cut gently with a dremel, pulled out the yellow retaining pins, stuck in a paper clip to release the wire pin clips, and the wire pins then pulled straight out. Then just inserted the old pins into the new green connector.
Blew out bits of plastic stuck in the ECTS plug recess and the job was done in about 10min.
