Default Engine cover for 97 XK8

Morning all,
I cracked one of the engine covers ( the one that says XK8 Jaguar) while working on the timing chain tensioners. Does anyone know what kind of plastic they are made of so that I can get some kind of glue to repair it? I know they are for sale, but would like to attempt a repair first.

I read somewhere, ( memory at my age) but can't recall where that the material is trade named Nylester a nylon polyester plastic. I had a cracked seat hinge cover and nothing I tried would glue the crack.
You could try repair adhesives for the bumper covers. Probably find it at a body shop supply house.

Vern is right, a nylon and no solvent. I would rough the back for a 2" width, use superglue as a temporary, then apply epoxy and glass tape or mat. Flexible epoxy may work, but it doesn't bond as strong and will still need the tape or mat. You can find used ones on ebay and that would be the best answer, but they are rare.

You could try a bumper/crash repair shop too, you could well find that they can weld it back up for you.

^^ That is probably your best option for a permanent repair. Just shop around for the best deal....

Thanks guys,
I found a JB Weld product at Walmart that is a 2 part epoxy specially for plastics...it seems to be holding well and is hard as nails. And it is only about 5 bucks. I will report back if have any problems in the future with it.
Thanks, Mike in TN

As long as you're very careful when handling it may hold up, but reinforcing the back with fiberglass would be better.

I've tried gluing, reinforcing it on the back side with fibre glass but it wont last. I gave up and just bought a replacement second set hand off ebay
Would love to be able to get hold of the joining piece, rare as rocking horse ****

I search for that same piece at every wrecking I go to hunting for parts. I think mechanics have them all setting in their toolbox junk drawer.
