Default Engine orange light not illuminate on ignition

Hi all,
i have an issue on the orange engine light (the one with the engine symbol). On ignition it does not light up, and does not light up even if i have some codes. i have currently an issue with the upper lambda A side, and have happened i have received a failsafe mode with the big orange light, so i take the attention the engine one does not light.
My opinion is that the lamp is burnt, but how to replace it? i have gone through Rev Sam video for removing the clusters from the dash, but the lamp which one is?
Thanks in advance
Luca

Luca,

It's not any of the replaceable bulbs in the holders you can see from the back of the Instrument Pack (these only illuminate the dials) so it must be soldered directly to the circuit board which means opening up the Instrument Pack.

Thanks

I've had a 2005 Instrument Pack opened up but not a 2001.

I recall Steve (WhiteXKR) has mentioned working on the earlier IP circuit board so he'll probably be able to help.

To be honest, i am not able to understand which pin is used in the connectors for engine check light.......
Attached a part of jtis, is someone able to point me which pins can be used to check the lamp (giving +12 or 5) without taking out the clusters?
Thanks

The check engine light is a 5mm round, water clear lens, amber color through-hole, narrow viewing angle LED soldered on the instrument cluster board. This is an example of a part that would be a close equivalent replacement: HLMP-C208-S0000 Avago Technologies US Inc. | 516-1386-ND | DigiKey. The circuit board from the instrument cluster must be completely removed to replace it. If you have no experience removing components from a circuit board, take the instrument cluster to someone who does electronic repair, since they are easily damaged with the incorrect solder removal technique.

The wiring diagram will not help you here since the control of the LED is entirely within the instrument cluster.

Just to be sure, there should be no other reason not to have the light on in ignition ( car runs fine so Ecm is fine).
Thanks

Can't think of one except a dead bulb.

The correct sequence is a bulb check cycle is initiated when the ignition is switched ON and lasts 3 to 4 seconds. The orange engine light (MIL - Malfunction Indication Light also known as CHK - Check Engine) remains on until the engine is started.
