Been a Jag owner for over a month now, driven it almost 5 meters since it was dripped off and parked it in the garage and the work started on the basis that I was going to do some restoration/modification work. (Which Iv done on all my cars before).
few days ago I had almost completed stripping the interior until I got to the top dash, (unfortunately I had the car on to warm it up that morning and forgot to switch it off before I started unplugging the top dash.
So car was on, in park, I remember removing a lower plug next to the left hand side of the driver seat, then jumping over to the passenger seat to get into position to remove the final plug which was the one going from the main loom into the bottom of the dash (heater I think). And I might have hit the gear lever while passing to the other side. I don't remember if I removed the plug then rested for a minute and then the car suddenly stopped or it stopped before I removed that last plug, however i remember thinking it must have run out of petrol as it was low the last time I checked. Continued to remove the dash and then went to try and start again and no tick over. I can't pull it out of park (unless manually). And it will only make a ticking sound if I start the ignition.
Weird thing is that the light in the glove box turns off when I try to tick over. (Not sure other lights are affected since there are none in the car anymore).
checked all the fuses and i found number 3(if not mistaken) on the left hand(passenger) side of the engine bay burnt (fixed, still same)
Have tried to remove the battery for 30 mins to drain etc. Does not help.
Tried to jiggle the gear lever. Not that.
I put the Speedo clocks back in to check and I saw all the warnings:
gearbox fault
Suspension fault
Electrical fault
Bulb fail rear
Incorrect part fitted
Failsafe engine mode
Note that the radio works, the hazard panel works ish, but the climate control does not now???
I have a maxi scan too (old cheap one) and it says it cannot connect to obd. Powers on but no connection with vehicle.
I have tried adding a secondary battery but no luck.
i have ordered a trickle chsrgec to try and fully charge the battery however I had been starting it daily with no issues.
Any ideas anyone as im scratching my head inside out. I hate electrics btw 🙈.
All ideas welcome.
I have no direct experience of this situation but from what you have described it sounds like you have disconnected something from the main can bus. No obd connection and all faults showing sounds like everything has been disconnected from whatever module controls these messages.
I have the wiring diagrams on my computer but without checking them I couldn't speculate about what module it is. I will have a look later.
just a thought but there is an accident kill switch somewhere under the dash in the passenger footwell (on uk cars) which is triggered on impact. The car will completely shut down if this has been triggered and not reset. Maybe you disconnected this?
I'm not terribly clear from what you've said, but do you still have everything unplugged? If so, there's no point trying to troubleshoot uless you re-install everything properly. And I'd strongly suggest disconnecting the battery before doing any type of work like this to avoid having a power spike ruin an electronic component. I've never heard of anyone doing this type of work with the engine running - that is asking for trouble!
If I understand the question/answer previously, sounds like all hell broke loose when you started disconnecting lines with the car running.in gear???
The 'crash trigger/kill switch' mentioned on left hand drive cars in in the left side CB enclosure, accessible when the dr. door is open. Small button on top of seperate device that must be reset.
Sounds like(to this very limited DIY amateur), that you need to disconnect the battery, recheck all connections, check the 'Kill' switch, and then re apply the battery. If that does not work, time to call a pro.

The thing is I went back and connected everything I could possibly find as it wasn't much to begin with however there was one wire that comes out from behind the steering wheel that seems to have no place to go and neither did I remember taking it out. Maybe it's for the convertible??? Will take a picture of it later and post.
Come to thing ok it that accident kill switch is think is the bottom left one and I did disconnect it however I have reconnected it since... Would a hard reset (touch negative to positive with ignition on and then put battery back on) solve this???

Thanks for the help.
I hard reset will reset all the fault codes on the ECU, if your reader won't do that function....or doesn't connect.
Try again after resetting with the battery. Then check for error codes again.
I'd be worried if the scan tool doesn't connect to the ECU....

Yes everything was reconnected and then a reset and hard reset were attempted.
Ur absolutely correct and I don't know how it slipped my attention that morning and I completely forgot the engine was on. It happened a few years ago with a range rover and since then I always have the battery off but this time I forgot to pay attention. 🙄

Lol no the car was not running in gear, it was just on.
and yes it was an amateur's mistake to have the car running, usually I have the battery out however I'll leave it down to human error... We all have our goofy moments . Lol

I believe it is a button that physically needs resetting. Can't remember the full procedure but it is in the manual. If that has been triggered then fuel pump would be locked so could explain a no start.

Mmmm. Possible However it doesn't tick over to begin with. There is only one tick sound and the lights go off, will not let me retry unless I take the key back to first position and then go through the cycle.

Of course I have never done anything 'Goofy' or stupid, and if you believe that, I have a great little piece of property to sell you just off the west coast of Sanibel Island. Great water view on all sides, as well as above....

Lol funny no need to go far as ur profile picture looks like ur both at the same time 😉. I already have a few properties so I think I'll pass...
Every forum must have at least one... 🤣
I had similar issues once. Car would not start and I got all kinds of warning messages and codes. Turns out the main harness to ECU connection was loose. I had just reinstalled the ECU after getting it tuned and seems like i didn't push the harness in all the way. Maybe in your case while working around the dash, something became loose as well. Worth checking into, it could be a free solution.
The other thing that comes to mind, not sure if it applies to your specific model, is the large main fuses (250 amp). In my XJR they're in the trunk. I have seen others have electrical issues because of these. Again, not sure how relevant this solution could be with your model, but could be worth looking into if you cant find anything else to be the root cause.

Hey jazzy,
Yeah it could be I knocked something out by mistake but iv tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything in sight, and I did suspect that maybe it was the large fuses in the back but have not had a way to test them.
Also not sure if It could be one of the relays in the engine bay (happened once in my range and was a relay), but I'll be getting a new set of relays to go with the new battery soon.
thanks n will keep an update 👍
