Default Exhaust Smell in Cabin - XK8 Coupe

Hi all, grateful for any suggestions. I have a throaty stage 2 Adamesh exhaust. Recently (years after exhaust installation), I can smell exhaust fumes in the cabin (with the windows closed). Are there any particular areas to investigate- has anyone had this issue and resolved? Many thanks

Muck in the heater matrix going mouldy.

if you think there is an air leak in the car just get a plumbers smoke bomb and let if off in the footwell and check around outside.

On every car I have ever had this problem it has been a cracked flexi-pipe.

Thanks all very much for the comments.

@OzXFR - do you know if the flexi pipe is easily accessible from under the car?

Dunno, never owned an XK8!
Best bet is to get it up on a lift and have a look and a poke around.

FWIW, exhaust smells in the cabin can be caused by small oil leaks burning off the hot exhaust system. I had that exact problem years ago on my then new-to-me XK8. These are closely related to air leaks, fuel trims, etc. Not 100% sure I remember what the actual leak was coming from, but look around and you will find it. Candidate #1 is of course the valve cover gasket, but there are lots of other places for these small leaks.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

There aren't any flexi pipes, so I guess the answer is 'no'!
