Default Falken 452 cupping

great tires but my front tires are cupping and it sound as though I have knobby tires!

I read that because the falken are built with block pattern the agressive type alignment of the XKR will cause that to happen.

Hoping Discount tire will exchange them or claim them under warranty.

Suspension is perfect, newly rebuilt, ALignment perfect

When I first purchased the tires they sounded so quiet, now after 8K they sound horrible.

Strange, I have read many people recommend these tyres on several forums, many who have fitted more than one set.

Not one has complained about problems.

Though, if you do a search, some Lexus owners have complained about more noise at end of life!

I've had 2 sets of 452s on my TT, no problem and currently on the XK but not many miles yet and have not seen the problem. However your post triggered a memory of a discussion about this problem on a UK TT forum a few years ago which may be of interest.

Almost exactly 8000 miles on them. Rears are perfect.

Ill be installing Hankook V12's on the front. My srt8 has them and they are great.

Isn't cupping due to shocks, not necessarily alignment? I had a set of fallen 452s, and other than a short life due to negative camber, and a little noise at the end of their lifespan (20,000 miles)

That has always been my understanding. Bouncing along the road surface.

Depends fellas,

Scalloping, cupping, feathering are the most common terms

Equally on both new tires

Recent rebuilt front end including shocks etc.

Like a DX aka differenetial diagnosis for a patient...gotta have all the information before narrowing down the culprit.

Bad shocks can cause cupping throughout the tire

But we have a known issue with the tire build and pattern, block patterns on the edge of a tire are the first weak spot.

Aggressive alignment specs on the XKR

Rubber compound

completely smooth ride

ZERO vibration or steering wheel vibrations

Well maybe the experts at your tire house will figure it out for you. BTW. feathering is NOT the same as cupping.

BTW I said it was a common term.

The issue has been cured Tires are on and no more road noise etc. Ill be taking a trip to Phoenix next week so Ill be ready to see if there are any other issues.

I have yet to see a real tire EXPERT at discount tire. However my son does work for them in phoenix at the head quarters. Judging by the number of returns and complaints on other more popular brand of vehicles the diagnosis is on the money. Falken recognizes the known problem

I've always associated tire "cupping" problems with the vehicle as opposed to tire problems. I could be wrong but I would focus on the vehicle no matter how perfect you now consider it to be.

Mind you, once tire cupping starts it's hard to stop even if you have cured the problem that initially started it.
