Has your thermostat housing been replaced with the aluminum one yet? If not, you really should consider doing both. Welsh Enterprises sells the aluminum replacement which includes a new thermostat.

In addition to the thermostat keep in mind the possibility that the water pump vanes might be plastic and worn down to a nub.

I had this problem a few years back.

Say, randyb as others on the Forum have noted this would also be a good time to clean the outer and inner faces of the radiator. With time these can really become impacted with insect matter and road grit and will eventually lead to reduced heat transfer and increased fan run times, regardless of thermostat function.

Did not understand the urgency. This article is about changing the housing, but you can easily use the pictures to do just the thermostat. It is behind the lower of the two large hoses. You will have to drain some coolant to do this. Then just remove the three bolts the lower hose is clamped on and there is the thermostat. Be careful of breaking the plastic parts, they get brittle with age.

Not sure if it tells how to drain the radiator. The drain is on the lower right back side, a plastic plug which a large washer can fit in the groove to turn, or maybe 25 cent piece. I do it from below after first removing the plastic shield under the oil filter, 7 mm bolt.

Should have said that first, just trying to do to many things at once.
