A little while back my head unit began playing up which entailed removing and replacing on a regular basis. This led me to devise an easier way of removing the unit, of course there is always more than one way to skin a cat but this was my way. Basic tool dimensions. Gauge is around .5mm and two are required, mirror image. I managed ok with these but a little longer would be handy.
A slight bias is needed as shown. Insert tools between top edge of head unit and switch pack immediately above in positions shown. Push tools straight in to full length. Manipulate tools toward outside edges of head unit. They will stop at retaining clips. Now draw tools toward you until mark on stem is just visible. Head unit can be removed by grasping with fingers in cassette slot. A slight twisting motion may be required. After a number of ins and outs l found a thin aluminium plate over the retaining clips, held by some 100 mph tape held the head unit securely but still allowed for removal without the need for any tòols.
