Fault codes will not clear
Any help would be appreciated. I have fault codes P0354, P0304, P1316 and P1111. I have replaced the coil for cylinder 4, and the engine now runs with no misfire. However, I can not clear the codes. I have an Innova 3030rs code reader, and have tried to clear the codes a couple of times. I am going to try a hard reset later today in case that is needed. Am I missing something? I am very junior on car repairs, so still trying to learn as I go. Thanks in advance.
P1111 for xk8 means your readiness monitors have completed. I hope to achieve that some day with my xk8, always seems to be some pesky monitor not completing. If you search on OBD2 or OBD II in the forum you will find links to DTC codes as seems you may be mis-interpreting the codes. If you hard reset, you will of course lose the P1111, but the other fault codes may return. I'll let the actual experts chime in further.
Odd - normally a code clear where the codes appear not to have cleared is because they've immediately set again. But you'd expect the P1111 to change to P1000 (& then if possible to P1111 after some drive cycle stuff).
If you've not seen P1000 at all it looks as though the tool isn't managing a code clear. Very odd! Another tool might manage it but if you've actually fixed the coil (P0354) then after 4 warm ups the code should self-clear.

Hi Newjagforme,
When I run into codes that won't clear even though I have resolved the associated malfunctions, one thing I try is to scan and clear the codes, then immediately turn the ignition OFF and remove the key for at least 30 seconds. Then reinsert the key, turn it to ON, and scan again. This gives the ECM or other module a chance to reset its internal memory, and often, this will clear the codes.
Cheers,
Don
