Smile Bulb warning on an XKR X100 (2002)

Has anyone successfully turned off the bulb out warning system on an X100? The reason I ask is if you want to fit LED rear lights you have to fit resistors to try to stop it throwing up a bulb failure warning. The system goes through the security and locking module for some obscure reason, which is hard to or expensive to replace if damaged. It would be good if this warning system could be somehow switched off.

Could the CANbus system actually damage such components? CAN data is very low current and is designed to withstand shorting out. I'd be surprised if it could damage the control modules or similar.

Just think it's worth mitigating the risk however small. Parts for these cars are getting rarer by the minute

Even if you could turn off the warning alert, the wiring would still go through the same modules, which is what you are concerned about. You'd have to disable the warnings and then somehow rewire the car. Surely can-bus compatible bulbs do the job?

True. I tried can bus bulbs but that didn't stop the warning. I read up and the consensus seems to be to wire in resistors

Re-wiring wouldn't be too difficult as the SLM only controls the reverse lights, it just monitors the other lights so could easily be bypassed. As far as I can see the only way to turn the warning off is to turn the SLM off, the only side effect being you wouldn't be able to start the car. OP could always try pulling the fuse to the SLM with the engine running to see what happens. Disclaimer: could be interesting.

Sure i read somewhere on the early cars you can cut the red wire to the LCM and ground it. That stops the error being sent to the dash, although don't quote me on that.
Michael might know more.

Cut the big red wire in the boot - that will stop all error messages.
