Default first right, then left, then both...ugh

I am new to the Jaguar world, but the car is an awesome ride, but I didn't have to tell you that.
My top works fine. However, lately my rear windows initially took turns staying up when they should have gone down, but after last nights cruise it appears they both want to stay up with the top down. My fluid level is correct,(I added some this morning) and I have cycled it several times with no success. Any help?

The windows are not controlled by the roof hydraulics but by the ECU trying to remember where the top cycle has got to.
Being English it is easily distracted by pretty women etc and can get out of sequence leading to what is technically called the 'Grand Old Duke of York syndrome'.
With the top fully closed and latched whet happens if you give the top down button a quick press?

thank you. I attempted to open the windows several times by holding down the button after the top was down. I will try the quick touch.

well, the quick touch did not do the trick... ;-(

You can try the battery reset with the roof up and locked. Reset your door windows and give it a try. There are others here with more knowledge about this, but I think your roof should not go down unless it gets the signal that the rear windows are down. Maybe something is out of sync...thus the reset.

So where are you after the reset? Windows up or down with top closed?

Default not yet

I have been reading up on battery reset. I don't have a dealer within one hundred miles, so taking it somewhere to get "codes" will not work for me. If I disconnect a 98, what should I anticipate?

You don't need a dealer, Autozone, Pepboys etc will read your codes for free.

I meant the ones to reset the radio etc. Am I wrong there?

I meant a simple battery reset. Disconnect the ground from the battery. Wait 15 sec and reconnect the ground. I don't think there are any codes to be read. If your rear windows are down then perhaps you should put the top down completely before you do the reset.

Default dang

I disconnected the negative, waited 15 seconds....restarted the car. It died once and the dash read battery not charging. started it again and all appeared fine, but the rear windows still will not work.

Check fuse number 5 (a 15 Amp fuse) in the fusebox on the driver's side of the dashboard

There are a bunch of relays in the fusebox in the trunk. Press them all down to make sure they are firmly seated in their sockets and have not worked loose.

Default Quater window operation

When depressing the convertible top switch for lowering the top, the body processor module sends output to two of four relays to lower the quarter windows (when raising the top, the other two relays are activated). The four relays are located in the trunk and are powered by the fuse box, also in the trunk.
Check the following fuses in the trunk fuse box; #1 fuse-5 amp; #12 fuse- 20 amp; #20 fuse-20 amp. The 20 amp fuses control the quarter window relays.

have unhooked neg battery post (twice) and all fuses are intact. no luck. remember, my back windows are stuck up if that makes any difference. I hesitate to put the top up for fear of ruining the seals.....thanks for all of your help. I do appreciate it.

See if you can manually lower the rear windows by using the instructions in this thread to jump the relays in the trunk.

Chances are it will not fix your problem, but the instructions will let you raise or lower them if you read through it carefully. It will also help narrow down which parts of the circuit are failing on you if it works.

Default rear windows- you win

I tested all the fuses and the power to the rear windows and they all are receiving power. I attempted to jump the windows as shown in the thread but was unsuccessful. plugs number only 1-5, and the instructions call for crossing 5 and 8. I am out of ideas. Seems improbable that both window regulators went at the same time.

Will make an appt to have some help with someone who knows more than me, which will be just about anyone!!! :-)

If you look on the underside of the relays you'll see a circuit diagram.
You want to jump out the socket pins corresponding to the switched contacts
(symbol like _/ _) NOT the coil. On my XKR these are pins 1 and 5 but check.
