The figures were a combination data published by JDHT and in Nigel Thorley's "You and Your Jaguar XK8".

At the time it wasn't clear whether the numbers referred to Model or Calendar Year. The latest chart at the top of the thread is from JHT records and is Calendar Year.

Graham
Are these production numbers for the USA produced XKs or worldwide?

A regular question is about introduction dates for upgrades:

The final XK8 (A48684) came off the production line at Jaguar’s Browns Lane factory on Friday 27th May 2005. This Frost Blue XKR 4.2-S Coupe was handed over to Jaguar Heritage Trust.

To be completely clear, these charts show that A23975 was sometimes between June and Juky 2001 and was not the full upgrade metal tensioners that came after August 13, 2001. Is that Positively Correct, or do I need the engine serial number? I'm looking at a new purchase. Thank you.

Graham,

Thanks for finding and sharing all this data. Also, now I finally know what MY means. Thought it referred to a special edition. LoL

Ouch. The convert to manual unlock seems like an easy fix. Quality of the lines isn't important. Upgrading the pump (softer close) means quality of lines is a factor. Do the hoses typically fail at the same place(s)? Easy way to evaluate them or just assume they always need to be fully replaced? Oh yeah, the last solution is to always leave the top down (or buy a coupe). Good to hear you were upfront about the lines and tensioners. So many sellers of first gen cars either don't know or won't admit to knowing about the tensioner problem.
