Great tip Montauke. I've only had my car for a week, but I experienced the flapping tonneau cover today. I was driving on I-95 at about 80 mph and as I passed a truck the turbulence from the truck caused the cover to lift and start flapping. I freaked out. I thought I was going to lose the tonneau cover. I'm going to install some velcro tomorrow. It lifted right there in the middle behind the two back seats.

Well... I installed the velcro a couple of weeks ago and it seemed to be working great. Then today I took the tonneau off for the first time since I installed the velcro (I park in my garage with the top down usually). The sticky side of the velcro had gotten all gummy in the heat, and now the back side of my seat is covered with a gooey, sticky mess. I think I need to come up with an alternative.

Sam,

I did this a long time ago to my cover, but learned then too, the velcro has to be sewn in. Not a big deal...just a couple of stitches in each corner, or along the two long edges. I used two velcro pieces about 3" x 1" long.

Actually, I'm thinking about cleaning up all of the goo, then using some 3M double-sided tape to hold it. The tape I'm thinking of isn't the normal stuff with the green and white cover. It's has a red cover and it is very rubbery and super-sticky. It's the same stuff that is used to hold the trim pieces on the door.

Damn straight it is! The little discs that come with Garmin GPSs use some other kind of tape. In the heat of summer the entire disc comes off. I've replaced the OEM stuff with the red stuff and I haven't had a problem since. In fact, when I got rid of a car I had to leave the disc behind because I simply couldn't remove it without damaging the dashboard.

I just had 3 Velcro patches stitched on the cover. Just so I know that it would not heat up and loose stickiness. Worked great... had the top down at 90 and no issues!!!

An update: I removed the velcro a couple of weeks ago and I haven't had a problem with the cover flapping. I think it's because I installed a wind deflector, and the deflector is keeping the wind from getting under the front edge of the cover. So, I guess I don't need to figure out how to get the velcro to stick now.

Default Tano Cover Snaps

My 97 XK8 has snaps behind the back seats and we ordered a new tano cover but it didn't have the snaps. So we bought a tool at a fabric store that installs snaps and it worked great. The outer post snaps still come lose during high winds when driving. Does anyone have an idea of how to either replace the snaps or posts or another option?
