Default The Flashing D Light

Several months ago I got the flashing D light and the J gate wouldn't down shift coming down the mountain. It has been that way until today. I drive it at least once a month in the winter time and today is the day. I just happened to check for the flashing light before backing it out of the garage and the light was on solid. J gate works now.
Let the sleeping dog lie or mess with it? Think I'll let it alone.

I'm afraid this one will wake up when I'm far from home.
I'm not going to use the manual side anymore and see if the problem will stay away.

I only use the J-gate manual side when I am doing the very specific and quirky drive cycles required to clear / reset all of the various readiness monitors. If I do it properly, I typically get through a complete clear / reset process in less than 30 miles of driving. Always love to see that P1111 code on my OBDII scanner after I am done....

If I remove Battery cables and do a Hard reset, what am I in for as far as getting things back to normal other than resetting the radio.

You will need to reset the drivers window and passenger window if your car is a convertible. Easy to do. Lower the drivers window and hold the switch down until you hear an audible click. Then raise the window and hold the switch down until you hear an audible click. Do the same for the passenger window using the switch on the passenger door, NOT the switch for the passenger window located on the drivers door....

You will also need to do the various drive cycles required to clear / reset the emissions system readiness monitors prior to your car's annual inspection. North Carolina law says that your car can pass inspection if only ONE of the various readiness monitors has not yet reset....

Flashing D indicates a CAN bus communication error between the shifter module and the transmission. There is a mechanical connection for P R N D but the J side is all electronic. When D is flashing the S won’t work either.

If it is intermittent you might try cleaning the connector to the shift module. Requires removing the shift surround and wood console but isn’t too bad to get to.

Thanks ccfulton for that bit of information. If it happens again I'll give it a try. For now I'm not going to use the J side anymore. I'm old and don't need it anyway. I just don't want to be far from home and have it go into limp mode and have to creep home.
