Hello Jag Fans,
I noticed this morning My front fog light is smashed,god knows how.Ive done some searching and found a replacement for about $140,but I dont need the whole assembly ,just the glass cover,any Ideas?its a Valeo sae f95 026702.

 

Welcome to the continuing list of people that had to purchase the entire fog light fixture just because of a broken lens. To date I have not been able to find a replacement lens, however no harm in trying your local auto glass comp.

 

thanks Gus,I thought about that,Ill give it a try.I will keep searching and if I find a company that can do just the lens I will post it.

 

I had the same problem myself. I purchased a pre-owned fog light on Ebay, removed the glass, and installed it on my original housing (the one I bought had broken tabs on the housing). I believe I paid $20-$25.00 for the light. I don't believe it matters what side you purchase (for your year), if your going to change the glass only.

 

Just a little "heads up". Changing the drivers side fog light is difficult. I had to pull the window washer reservoir before I finally got mine out. A little note.... There are a lot of people in this forum that have 1999 XKs. Was that a big year for new car sales or maybe they are getting 100'000 miles so they are changing hands. I'm still not sure I am happy about buying mine. It's a good toy but I am getting tired of having to fix it so much.

 

You can get any fog light from 96-01 after that they went to the flush look on the facelift models.

And the easiest way to change one requires the removal of the front bumper, they are a PITA

 

Buying a used right side unit on ebay to replace the lens on the left side. Plan on just removing the fender liner as recommened by tech.

 

When you've got the RH unit, please make another post here to tell us if the lens switch works.

Well, got the RH light assembly in hand but, as told, the LH is a bear to get at. Started with just removing the wheel and access panel, then the entire liner. The problem is that, even with WD40, the serated brass nuts that the bolts fit into turn easier in the plastic housing than the bolts do in the brass. Looks like the washer reservoir or headlight assembly is next to come out, but too nice a day for that. Think I'll just put it back together and go for a drive.

 

Well, decided to just go ahead and remove the headlight assembly and it did the trick. So here is the deal.

Jack and secure the vehicle and remove the wheel on the affected side. Remove the fender liner, very easy, though they use a variety of fasteners. You can reach the fogs enough through the access panel to change bulbs but that is about it.

Remove the lower bolt from the headlight assembly (Mine was missing) and the two uppers. One is a screw on the top outboard, the other is a nut on the inboard side. (Just loosen the nut, don't take it off, the assembly is slotted).

Pull the housing forward just a bit. Remove the washer trim cover, reach underneath and release the two clips for the washer assembly, pull it forward, release it and let it drop down into the space below. Next, reach behind the housing from the well and unlock the electrical connector. Turn the light assembly to the left a bit and work it gently out of the fender.

This allows you access to the screws holding the fog light in place. Remove the bulb holder from the back of the light (CCW 1/4 turn) Gently pry the tabs on the each side of the reflector and work it out of the housing. Note the lens itself is attached with adhesive and would be difficult to separate with out damage. A high speed might work, but if the replacement house you bought is good, use it.

Now here is where it gets tricky. Remove the adjusting screw on the bottom mount. The mounting screws use a brass serrated nut inserted in the plastic clips holding the light in place. Make sure you use plenty of WD40 because the nuts tend to turn in the plastic rather than allow the screw to come out. The clips also release from the housing using a slotted screwdriver inserted into a slot from behind, but it won't do you much good if you can't get at least two screws loose so you can just release the last clip and slide it up and out.

The top inboard hole in the front fascia to which the clips are attached is slotted. The other two aren't. Slotting all three might be beneficial.

If the lens is broken, be careful of the sharp edges. Remove the fog light.

Once out I placed the two lights side by side and though they had different part numbers the RH light I had purchased (a 97) looked exactly like the LH (a 2000) and it fit right in place.

Reverse the steps and test the lighting before putting the liner back in. I did notice some chaffing on what looks like an A/C line behind the liner and wrapped it with tape before putting the liner back in.

Have some pics but they are currently oversize and can't post. Would be glad to send them to anyone who asks.

Is there someone flying around the world smashing fog light lens on only 1999 XK8s. I've got the passenger side smashed as well. Lots of good information in this thread.

 

I did put a thread up showing how you can use a fog light from a X150 or X Type or XJ they all use the same generic type, at only about $30 and you can not tell the difference from the outside I reckon is a good substitute

Like XKRacers idea of using a non works unit. I have a feeling we will be performing this repair more than once. Now we need a quick change solution.

 

I have a similar problem accept the "L" shaped bulb retainer is gone...if you buy a new lamp, call me and I will buy the bulb retainer for $25...Dave 949-235-1637
