Default Front Shock mounts

Mine are apple coring really bad, does anybody know where I can get some quickly?

Everybody seems to be out of stock.

Also, Jagbits has a rebuild kit w/polyurethane, has anybody tried these?

I have installed the upper shock mount "kits" from Motorcars Ltd. on my '99, and they are a real disappointment. The material seems too soft, allowing the shock upper rod to moveand stay off center, just like the worn out original bushings. Contrary to popular opinion, I don't see how the shock rod being off center will affect camber, as this is not a McPherson strut. The ride is much improved, only because the old bushings were near metal to metal. I have decided to leave as is until they wear out, and will then install originals.

I was under the impression Motorcars LTD own upper mounts were polyurethane replacements, and besides the instructions provided, the end product was very good. When jaguar went on backorder for these for months on end, some places fabricated their own (like motorcars). Jaguar's mount uses an actual rubber, and will inevitably deteriorate quicker than the poly. Jagbits has always been pricier than any other place on the net, but if you can get a poly kit upgrade, I'd do that in a hearbeat. My mounts were replaced by the dealer before I even know what the heck was going on under there, so I got rubbers.

This doesn't really directly answer your question, but I just had mine replaced by the dealer. This difference is amazing! Worth the money.

the cheapest youll find on oem is from Discount Auto Parts Online - Import Auto Parts -- PartsGeek.com. i have used the motorcar kits, and it does save money. but i had to charge more to disassemble and retrofit the urethane so the saving were nil. the OEM's are a foam rubber, not just rubber and theyre good for about 7yrs give or take. It is the lowered ride hegth from collapsed bushings in the upper mounts that make the camber go negative, not the offset of the shock rod. but if it moves off center too much it will then become noisy over bumps. you have to be very carefull assembling the kits and when they say "tighten evenly alittle at a time on each nut" thats exactly what they meen.

How hard was it to cut the old bushing out and replace with the polyurethane?

Partsgeek is out, so is autowarehouse, I even checked a website based in UK and they are out.

you just take out the upper mounts after you disassemble the shock and spring. Drill out the 3 rivits and reassemble with the motorcars polyurethane kit. Includes the special rivits. Youll need a rivit gun . And like i said tighten alittle at a time to not **** the bushing as youre reassewmbling the mount. If it ***** just loosen and retighten evenly. Then rivit it and reassemble. You wont have to replace these every 5-7 or so like the oem. Kens number @motorcars is

Thanks Brutal, think I am going to get the kit from somewhere else, Motorcars is a bit pricey for the kit.
$159 for kit VS $164 new

But that kit is for the pair, and the upper mounts are apiece correct at $164

I made my own, 4 bushings, out of neoprene, durometer shore A 40, ~2.5" od x ~1"id x 3/4"thk. They seem to work pretty well. I have enough for 3 sets of 4 bushings each.
I'll sell them for $45.00 per set for the XK8's...if anybody is interested.

Thanks
Bill

Not according to the saleman I talked too, he said I need 1 per side.
That is why I am going with the company in UK, their kit does both.

I just spoke to Bill on the phone and ordered some of these neoprene disks from him. I've been wanting to replace my upper shock mounts but I've always balked at the price Jaguar wants for a little bit of rubber. After talking to Bill I'm pretty sure this will be a relatively easy DIY job. I'm pretty handy, and it's going to save me about $250-$300. I'll make a video, of course.

While doing the fronts, you may want to check the rears. Good thing is that the rears although are made of the same rubber, do not have the metals attached and are cheaper than the fronts.

WOW! I received the rubber bits for the upper shock mounts from Bill (wlbusmcr) today. I'm beyond impressed. I was expecting some rather raggedly cut donuts of rubber. These things look like they came out of a factory. The edges are beveled, they are all identically sized. I haven't tried to install them, yet, but they appear to be perfect. Here's a pic:

Bill says I also need some liquid urethane and a 1 foot square sheet of 1/4 inch rubber, which I can get from mcmaster.com. I'm going to order the stuff I need, which should cost about $50, then replace the shock mounts next week.

Randy
Do you have the web site that you used to get the rebuild kits for the front shock mounts in the UK. I have to do both of mine too.

I'm a little confused here.

You initially stated that you purchased the mounts from Partsgeek. I replied with a concern for my own new mounts from Partsgeek as well.

By the look of your mounts it appears that you used the same rubber mounts as pictured above.

I assume that you are asking me this Anthony8858? If so please reread that post. I had never said that I had bought the upper shock mounts from Partsgeek. That was another member complaining about the mounts that they had received from partsgeek.
