Default Fuel and Exhaust Issue. ( :

Good day peeps,

I have a few issue's, first, I was at the parts store ( oh no ) talked with
a clerk said he had mechanical background, sounded good, I ask myself,
why you here. Told what I've been through, an so on. He come to the
reason of my passing out while driving, I have CO ( carbon monoxide )
leaking inside the cabin.

This is been going on for some time, in the past I could smell the exhaust,
so I just use the A/C, no smell. Well a few weeks back I come out of the
store and notice my tail pipe hanging. Hummmm. On my hands and knees,
I see a weld broke, what I assume was the tail pipe. Not! I find it's the
cad-alack converter. No problem, is what I thought, now I don't smell the
exhaust, and have passed out a few times. Thought it was just me over
worked.

That is till it happened early one Sunday site seeing, I pull over and air
out. Is it the converter and I need to get it welded back on? Or do y'all
think I might have a deeper problem?

Second, I mention I can smell fuel, even more when I crack the window.
He said there's a charcoal blanket that goes bad around the fuel tank, is
this true? And where can I get one?

Third, I get restricted performance, check engine light blinks. Parts
store lets me hook up a code reader that tell you what's wrong. Says
points on cylinder 8 is bad. I take a look see, and I do see oil around
the top, I have one on order. My question is, do I need any special tools
to replace this coil, and sense this is my first with this type of car, is it
going to be very hard to replace?

Thanks for your Help! ( :

Billy,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to XK8/XKR forum. This is the place to post technical questions about your model.

Wait, you passed out in the car?

For safety reasons I would have a professional look at this. An exhaust leak in the cabin can be fatal.

+1 on the above advice.

The blinking check engine light means that the catalytic converter is on the edge of failing completely. Do not drive the car.

Have it flat bedded to a shop that knows these cars well.

I am astonished by this utterly irresponsible attitude. Were you going to wait until you killed someone on the road while passed out before taking this seriously? You should have your license revoked.

These cars do suffer from their share of problems.

Most of the time with the help and advice of forum members you can throw a few parts at it until the issue is solved. However, you seem to have a genuine safety issue that can affect both you and other road users.

PLEASE take the car to a knowledgeable Jaguar mechanic and have it repaired properly ASAP!

Gentlemen,

I really do dislike this type of attitude on the Jaguar forum. I have always felt that we are above that. I do understand both of your responses, but I believe apologies are in order on both sides.

Let's get back to helping one another.

Okay, so you need to have the cat replaced or at least welded so there's no leak. Chances are it's lunched, so a replacement is the best choice. There are probably a number of used ones on ebay.

The oil around the plug indicates the need to replace the cam cover gasket, as there are oil seals for the plug wells in the kit. A close inspection of the cam cover for cracks/warping also. All too often they get over tightened.

While the cover is off check to see that the secondary tensioners have been replaced with the metal body type. Search for tensioner failure with the search function in the upper right of the forum page.

Default I concur!

Stug,

I will never give in to a person like that, they are a type of ppl.
who need help. I came here for advice, and so far only one
has helped!

This is a nice forum, and I like the layout, but if you guys let A-holes
like that in here, I'll go somewhere else. As for the gas smell, any ideals?

P.S. after I realized what was making me PASS OUT! ( on the verge ) I
had fixed, just feeling y'all out. Seems I found a smarta**. If I was y'all
I watch him.

Ok part of me says to leave this alone and another part is convinced the whole thread is a wind up but....
If you are on a quest for the high ground your approach is not cutting it.

Sounds like the cats are toast. Perhaps instead of oem you can move to a high flow solution-- that way you get a fix and an upgrade.

The fuel smell can be lots of things-- purge valve, fuel damper, leaks. What exact conditions do you smell fuel and is there a general area it's stronger?

Again, I would advise professional assistance as the issues described can be very dangerous.

Best of luck!

Default Thanks! dsd

I agree, tell me more about this high flow solution, please. As for the
fuel smell, it's worst is when I fill up, or when I crack the drivers side
window. Talking with other experts, there advice is that there's a leak
near or in the tank somewhere, as the smell is worse when the window
is cracked or down.

What is this about a blanket I hear say? ( for the tank )
