Default Fuel pressure drops to zero

I believe that the pre-2003 cars do have a fuel pressure regulator in the fuel line in the engine bay which might well be faulty. After 2003, the regulation is done by the fuel pump.

Are you getting any warning messages on the dashboard? Are you able to read any OBD fault codes?

Richard

Default Correcet

We have a 2001 Jaguar XKR. After two years of sitting in a parking lot, the car stopped starting. First, we checked all the relays and fuses. Then, we replaced the two fuel pumps. Even after replacing the fuel pumps, the car still wouldn't start; only the crank starter worked. After that, I connected a pressure gauge to check the pressure in the fuel rail. Then, a miracle happened: the Jaguar started. With the ignition on, the pressure in the fuel rail is 40 psi. However, the engine starts, and the pressure immediately drops to zero, causing it to stall. Please advise what needs to be checked. I haven't changed the fuel filter yet. Could something have happened to the pressure regulator?

No fault codes, only P1000

Start with the fuel filter, and take it from there. You need to at least rule it out.

check if the primary fuel pump fuse is blown. the second fuel pump turns on for one second when you switch the ignition on to fill up the rail and then stays off until 3000rpm.

if the fuse is ok, connect a wire across on the primary pump relay connector pins 30 and 87. if it’s good it will run

Smile Fuel pump

I have some new information.
After studying this wonderful forum in more detail, I understood how the two fuel pumps work.
on the XKR. I decided to try removing the R4 relay, which caused the P1230 error to light up. But the car started perfectly and
did not stall.
I was even able to take a ride after 2 years of the Jaguar being idle.
But without the “first” fuel pump, the maximum engine speed is 3000 rpm.

Based on this, I think I need to check the first pump?
I will clarify that 2 new fuel pumps are installed.

see if you have power on one of the 2 large terminals (30 and 87) of R4. if it’s not there check your fuse.
