Default Fuel smell, cold start & Heater issues

Working 3 issues on our 2000XK8 convertible:
1:fuel smell, 2; intermittent no start on cold days, 3; Heater not getting hot

1:Fuel smell in the cabin. Intermittent P0455 ODB code, CCV tested OK, no leaks (yes I did a smoke test). Pulled the purge valve off, took it apart, diaphram OK, it has vacume supplied from the engine on the vacume hose, purge valve vent filter on top is ok, etc... is there an electrical test for the valve? Any way to see if it's stuck?

2: Intermittent cold no start...(VIN A0+)seems flooded, first occurence I pulled the autolite platinums and put NGK plugs back in & oiled the cylinders, it worked fine until the next cold snap...second time... I manually opened the throttle plate - wide open until it started (cleared the flooded condition quickly). No ODB codes stored, verified TPS has gold contacts on the plug & TPS side. Air flow sensor is clean and it starts & runs great except for these 2 times. What should I check before the next cold snap?

3. Heater: Self diagnostics sayall is OK. Core is free flowing. Hoses to electrical valveare HOT. I pulled off the heater hose at the core, it seemed to not have much water... so I pulled water all the way to the core inlet (though it might be air bubble in the system).... Suspect air in the system or a problem with the heater pump (engine water pump & T stat seem fine). Do you ever see air logged heater circuits?

1. Definitley would suspect the purge valve being stuck. I have a TSB for you on this. I sent PM to get your email address.
If you want to check electrically, two wires going to purge valve, white with blue trace should have 12 volts when key on. The other wire, blue with yellow tracer is an output from ECM pin EM80-01. Check to see if you have 12 volts on White and Blue wire then check the other side. Use a meter not a test light for the voltages. Let us know what you have coming from the ECM on the Blue and Yellow wire.
I advise you read the TSBs I am sending you first. Let us know what you find. However I got $20 says it is the purge valve.

2. Check the part load breather is clear on the B Bank (drivers side) Cam cover. If restricted, use a size smaller than 1/8" drill bit to clear the restriction.
Have you done a fuel pressure test on vehicle? It is possible the injectors are leaking and causing the flooding concern. You can put fuel pressure gauge onto the schrader valve. Disconnect the return line and plug. Prime system and see if it bleeds off. If it does, you know the injectors are leaking. If it does not, reconnect the line and prime again. If it bleeds off this time, you know fuel is running back to tank and the check valve in the pump is stuck.
Is the throttle plate clean? Look carboned up? If so clean that also.
Let us know what you find with the fuel pressure tests.

3. I am not sure what to tell you about the heater. I forget. Is it not blowing hot air at all? Or is it warm, or slow to get hot?
Sorry for not remembering the concern with it.

1. Ordered a purge valve today, 24 hour shipping, will install it wednesday, does Jaguar suspect particles getting into the purge valve or what is the reason for adding a fuel filter to the purge hose during the installation?

2. Looks like there is some sort of metal insert in the crankcase vapor vent nipple on the left bank valve cover(part load breather). I'm worried it may fall in the cam area, is there something that is supposed to be in there?

3. It doesn't get above luke warm...

Probably supect debris from tank to purge valve. Glad you are getting it. I personally have never installed the filter inline. That is your choice to make.

The metal, is it at the bottom? If you can see that, it is a baffle. You dont want to drill through it. Just make sure the port is clear to the baffle.

Try bypassing the water valve. See if it starts blowing hot. If so, you know where the problem layeth.

1. Changed the purge valve 2 days ago. No more fuel smell so far.

2. Part load breather is clean on B bank.
2.a. - What spark plug have the best cold start success? I'm using NGK PFR5G-13E
2.b. - How would I know if the ECM needs to be flashed with an update?

3. Is there a test proceedure for the heater circulation pump?

Looking at the schematic fo your car, it doesnt show a heater circulation pump. What are you referring to? Can you take a picture?
What does your ext temp display read on the climate panel?

heater circulation pump.. on xk is on top of the tranni. i wud check the resistance of the pump .. shud be between .. 25-35 ohms.. also check to see if the water valve is circulating.. set at 26 celsuis and touch valve to see if it is fluctuating.. a good old flush can also clear up some problems...

Do all XK's have them or is that a Canadian thing? I have never seen it. Again being in FL have no need for the heaters really.

Oh yeah. They work great. Easy to change the peltier cell too. Probably only gonna pay 2/10ths.
Out of all of them, the XF is my favorite. Was a very nice drive. Cant wait til next year when the XFR comes. 500+hp

They had a video of it racing through the snow. Advertising the new DSC thing. Looked pretty cool. Cant remember the last time I drove in the snow. Been a long time since I even saw snow. I miss it now, but didn't then.
