Default Full engine replacement on my xk8

Hello Fellow Forum Friends! Two Quick questions please for those that have traveled this "Gravel". I Burned my 8th Cylinder bank valve many months ago and it was determined by my many year Jag mechanic that it would likely be Better(in the long pull),Less Expensive(labor wise)etc. if we considered doing a full engine replacement on it. So, We sourced another 293 HP 4.0 Liter engine for it for $900.00, and I purchased it. It is NOW time to do the TRANSPLANT. I have TWO QUESTIONS: a) What is a reasonable LOW & HIGH cost one should anticipate for this and b) The Starter was recently replaced on the old engine and the alternator is also in fine shape, so should I ask my mechanic to salvage those two parts for me for future use as opposed to just letting him do whatever gets done to the Ailing Engine once removed? THANKS MUCH FOR ANY AND ALL ADVICE IN ADVANCE!

Jaguar warranty time for the 4.0 X100 is about 12 HOURS.

A reasonable 'real-world' time is about 18 hours. (warranty time times and a half or 12 X 1.5 = 18)
That includes swapping all the accessories.

If it were me, I would have him swap out with as many parts as possible on the new to you engine already, then have him give me the newer ones for replacement if they ever needed to be. I personally wouldn't pay over $1500 for the used engine unless it was SUPER low miles.

at least have the technician examine the parts on the "new" engine and see if they are in better shape than the starter & alternator on your RIP engine. You have to trust the person to a certain extent to make these decisions in your favor.

PS when you say the alternator is also in fine shape, does that mean it's brand new, or at least a re-manufactured piece.
