Hi
My 2001 XK8 comes up with gear box fault and goes into fail safe mode only when it has been running for at least 50 miles and if you let it cool the next day it's fine had new gearbox 4000 miles ago seems to be temperature related but does not come up with any faults. On diagnostic test could it be temp sensor if so why would it not show on diagnostic
Any advise would be great as I don't trust it now to get me home

Welcome to the forum Simon,

I've copied this question from New Member - Intro forum for advice from members with the same model.

There are no DTCs in the ECM??? but what about the TCM????

You need to check for DTCs in the TCM if that is where the fault lies. Asking the engine module for info is probably not going to get all the info you need.

I used to get gearbox faults all the time, fail safe messages and ASC errors. Since having my gearbox oil and filter changed all these have disappeared and not had 1 error since. Odd how that oil change appears to be link to a whole load of error messages.

Might be the change also got it topped up properly. Sometimes a small leak has let some escape unnoticed.

+1 on better diagnosis / TCM codes
