Default Gearbox judder - do additives work?

I get chronic judder from the gearbox in my XK8 at around 1800 RPM / 60MPH when applying the lightest of throttle.

It's like the car's about to tear itself apart - akin to braking heavily with severely warped disks. From what I can gather, it could be to the torque convertor, but I've seen a few products advertised (mostly American) which claim to cure it.

Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx is one, although I daren't Google it whilst the wife's around!

Is this just snake oil, or do they really work. I'd love to hear from anyone who's tried this or anything similar before shelling out £800 or so on replacing the torque convertor.

Thanks in advance, Andy

Hello

Just realised that you are the same person with the head gasket.

You have been duped, this car is not fit for purpose!
Take it back to where you bought it and ask for your money back.

If this fails and you are a member of the AA or RAC etc. get in touch with their technical/legal departments for help.

Else contact your local Citizens Advice Bureau.

When I first read Andy's post last night, I thought you'd posted about having fluid changed at an Auto Transmission specialist in Bristol?

If it was, I couldn't find the thread.

I can't imagine anything less than a complete fluid change helping your tranny...and that is the LEAST that might help it, but with a prayer alongside. Your situation sounds serious. But you could try draining a cup of fluid out to see what it looks like. I'm betting it's not very good.
