Going to check out an XK8 tomorrow
I know something like this has been posted many times before, and I have searched through the site. That being said, I have found a 2002 XK8 for 6k with 115k and am going to check it out tomorrow.
I'm taking my mechanic (road trip) with me and will have it checked out by the local dealer.
Seems too good to be true, and you know what that means.
100 mile drive to see the car. What should I be aware of when looking?
Thanks,
John

You will have your mechanic, better than the dealer check IMHO because you know him, so the usual mechanical checks are covered.
That said, see if it has the service history records and general appearance of care. Not the "it looks almost new" appearance, but did the PO keep up the car? Rubber looks new, no old leaks (no new leaks for that matter), generally are the mechanical bits taken care of.
Good luck.

2002 was the last year of the plastic secondary tensioners. Unless there is documented proof of them having been replaced, figure you're on borrowed time and you'll have to figure the extra cost as part of your budget. This is absolutely the first thing you have to do. Ask me how I know.
+1 to the suggestions above.
Have your mechanic put a scantool on it. This will tell you a lot more about the condition of the vehicle than the owner will. If the codes have recently been cleared and P1000 is showing (OnBoard Monitoring Tests not completed) then you really need to know why.
I find used Jaguar values in the USA as discussed on the forum way ahead of what we pay in the UK and $6K for a 2002 does look suspiciously low. It would make me think possible powertrain issues. Then again, it could simply be an owner who wants a quick sale and is pricing accordingly.

Use the Owners Manual as a check list of features and functions. Check all the interior lights, steering wheel tilt/reach, all AC functions, radio operation especially rear base speakers, etc.

Seems like a good deal if it checks out. I have found that mechanical issues are often easier to sort out than things like a bad top, leather interiors that are shot, cracked dashboards, etc.
Good luck and, at that price,, don't be afraid to go with your gut. I assume that $5,500 cash buys the car and it may be that the first person there wins.

HP numbers listed seem to be way off? I thought 294 HP was not till 2003, they are saying 03 had 305???
