Is this a good deal, Hard to find comps?
I am considering a 2006 XK8 Convertible with 60,000 miles being sold by a local dealer. I believe it may be a Victory edition model based upon the checkered flags on the emblem on the hood and the checkered flags on the door sills. The asking price is $15,500 USD. The color is SeaFrost. I have taken the car for a long test drive and everything seems to work fine. Is this a reasonable price?

That car is doing $10k to $13k at auctions, that's 7 cars total since March of 2017. That won't be every single car to cross the block, but it gives you some idea what has sold wholesale. That is only 2006 XK8 verts.
A car is only worth what someone will pay for it and what the seller will take. If that is the internet price there may not be much wiggle room from the seller but who knows for sure but them.
Keep in mind you don't know what the dealer spent on repairs. All 7 of those cars need something I promise, not to mention auction fees and transport.
If it makes you feel better look at what these were new. Go see what cool cars you can buy for that amount...not very many in the same league.
You may be well served to find someone who knows what they are doing to do a pre-purchase inspection.
If you want to negotiate I would recommend you do that before you get it looked at. Once you commit to a pre sale inspection the guy may become reluctant to reduce the car because he will know your hot on it. If they find things you may just have to factor that in. After you find out the dealers bottom, and you find it needs say $2000 worth of things that doesn't mean the guy is going to reduce it by that or any.
At any time you don't like the way things are going walk away and eat the pre sale inspection fee.
Look close at final #'s to make sure there isn't something fishy in the tax title license fees, like $1500 in nitrogen tires or $499 administration fees. There's a lot of different ways they slide stuff in there. The pre sale guy may or may not be able to tell about previous paint work, but most body shop guys can. If the guy uses a paint meter even better.
I think are hoods are aluminum and lots of meters won't read that. The ones that do cost a lot more, and they aren't cheap to begin with ($500-600).
Paint work isn't the end of the world but structural damage is never good.
If something is wrong back away. Not everybody can pay cash or get a loan on a 2006 and the guy selling that knows it.
One last thing. That particular color does not hurt that car one iota in my opinion, however, in most cars that color is a $ hit, like real money. It is beautiful on our cars, but the dealer doesn't know that silver or red or black shouldn't be more. Keep complaining about the color (even though we love it) and they should get to their best price quick.
Sorry if I sound like a know it all, but I've been a dealer for 33 years...I still don't know it all.

That is me. The dealer is really a great guy. He is holding the car for me without a deposit until Monday. He sent me an itemized breakdown of all costs including taxes and DMV fees. Everything looks good. I will provide an update Monday. I am sure I will have many more questions going forward.

Did He say "Victory Edition"?
Norri and XK8Forme,
Not sure why XK8Forme hasn't jumped on this "V-E"? Is it the miles? It appears to be a legitimate "V-E" Elm Wood Dash, Growler and Tread plates are right. The mileage and the Car are worth $14,500.00 or more...according to the ...Looks of the Car and the fact that it is 11 years old....It's a doer...
But, I wonder why it has the 3 gauges...unless they have been changed-out...Can anyone explain that any other way? Also, the Chrome lift plate that holds the License Plate Lights....Isn't that suppose to be Body-color? I thought they only used Chrome during 2001 - 2002 and went to Body color in 2003!
XK8Forme, check to paper-work to make sure it's a "V-E" as it should say somewhere in there. That really makes the Car more valuable and definitely worth more than a plain old XK8! Those are "V-E" Tail Lights, no question about that!

Billy he has jumped on it subject to an inspection on Monday. Can't say I blame him.
Navigation was an option in the XK8's I believe and standard in the XKR's the original owner made a wise choice to skip it.
Looking at google pics of victory's the body colour plinth may have been an R thing also, maybe someone will know, my research wasn't too extensive.

Billy, here is the Jaguar brochure which explains what the Victory Editions had. Navigation is not listed as standard, though I believe most VE's came with the upgraded option.
https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/a...rochure-1-.pdf
Also, my XK8 Victory Edition came with the chrome on the trunk.
The XK8 VE's were supposed to come with 19" chrome Atlas wheels, so those are either not the original wheels or it is a Canadian car (they weren't available there). Perhaps the original owner requested different wheels from the dealer, who knows.
FWIW I have some of the original paperwork when mine was bought new, and the only thing that refers to it being a VE is a handwritten scribbled note from the dealership. My VE I bought 9 months ago had around 100,000 miles but was less than half that price with a few minor problems that needed fixed. I consider I got a decent deal, though.

Thanks chillyphilly for the Brochure and the clarification on the Chrome piece on the Trunk/Boot...To be honest about that, It looks like Jaguar just grabbed a bunch of left-overs and used them on these final editions of the X-100.....
Also, If you bought your V-E for less than 10 grand, I would say "You gotta deal" that is according to what the problems were.....
This Guy is looking at 60,000 miles on what looks like a super deal for less than $15,000.00.....Wish it was a Coupe and here in Houston....I would beat him down to the Dealer Monday morning!!

I get the impression that practically all '06 XK8's were Victory Editions. The car was end of life with greatly diminished sales. So the factory decided to throw in all bells and whistles on the VE at minimal upcharge in order to unload everything - upgraded Atlas wheels, Xenons, softer leather, checkered flags, navigation. And the buyer smartly opted for 3 dials instead of navigation. Who knows why it doesn't have Atlas wheels.
You negotiated a great price on it, probably because the dealership didn't do their research (e.g. condition, mileage, color), nor know what a VE was. Of course there could also be problems - pls keep us posted.
