I'm glad you mention screwdrivers; I have been a little lax over the years and haven't spent enough effort finding my ideal ones.
The Snap On you mention will certainly get a look from me.
Does anyone know the relationship between Williams and Snap On?

One brand that has served well is Intertool from Germany. The steel is beyond reproach, but there is a failing that so many screwdrivers have, and that is the absence of a hollow grind on the blade. This means that the blade is tapered and tries to ride up out of the slot, necesitating extra force down to the screwhead. Nice steel will cope, but it is not ideal.

My side-arms of choice are the Bahco S240 1/2'' drive set, for "heavier" work:



Top quality bit of kit - Bahco is basically Snap-On Europe these days. And also, the Halfords 150-piece. I don't recall ever seeing a better, more comprehensive set for the amateur home spanner-spinner:



These are my torque wrenches:

Torq 1/4'' torque wrench - 5-25Nm

Torq 3/8'' torque wrench - 19-110Nm

Torq 1/2'' torque wrench - 42-210Nm

First two are €34.20 apiece, last 'un is €41.10. They are a solid, well-put together affair. They remind me of those old-school stainless micrometers.

Lastly, on the subject of ratchet spanners - I have a good assortment of them, and find them a tremendous hand-saver on occasion. They shouldn't be used for "cracking-and-nipping" high-torque fasteners, though - the mechanisms aren't really up to it.
