Had a light knocking in the engine 😵
So a little bit ago i noticed a light knocking sound coming from the right side of the engine on my 97. Needless to say my mind jumped to the timing chain, which it and the tensioners had been changed before I bought it. I ordered a set of cam cover gaskets and went to pulling that side. Looking and feeling around, everything seemed fine! It sat until my gaskets got here. Friday i looked and felt around again, but still didn’t notice anything so i decided to just put the cover back on. I started the car and sure enough the sound was still there, but seemed more prevalent on the left side! ARGH! I grabbed my automotive stethoscope and started listening around. “Sounds like its cominig from 2 spots under the cam cover! ARGH” So i decided to pull the coil cover and see if i could pinpoint it. What i found kinda ticked me off! Two of my newer delphi coil packs were clunking! Luckily I’m a pack rat and had kept my old coils in a bucket lol. I swapped them out and then the knocking started on the right side again! Pulled that coil cover and listened to the coils and sure enough 2 of them were clunking too! I swapped those for old ones and now its not knocking at all again. Just goes to show you that sometimes you can make a quick job sooooooo much longer lol smh
