Default AJ16 owners: Painting coil cover

Hello guys;

About a year ago I found a guy selling brand new Aj16 alloy cam covers and I bought a couple. One of those new ones is already installed and I tried to make
The plastic coil cover strip look somewhat decent to compliment the new cam cover by using some touch up paint to redo the "JAGUAR" logo, but it came out really crafty looking.

Has anyone repainted their coil cover strip? If so what color did you use for he gray and how did you get the letters redone?

Thanks!

Not traditional colors but here's what I did.
Spray whatever color you want on the letters first and let it dry.
(no masking, just spray the entire area)
Spray the main color over the entire cover.
Let it set up a bit and then take a rag and some mineral spirits and carefully wipe off the letters.
Easy to do - No talent required!

Thanks everyone for the replies. I want to make it look original, but my problem has been with the green lettering. Spraying the grey should be simple enough, but getting those letters is my problem.

Has anyone painted theirs the original color. If so what brand/ paint code did you use for the gray?

Thanks!

I feel your pain on that. Our covers seem to turn to dust causing all sorts of problems. Unfortunately, the fellow I got the cam covers from only had 2 left and I took both for my car. Otherwise I would gladly refer you to him. He sold them for 150 each too. I have seen some idiot on ebay wanting 600.00 for one. Insane.

I'd be interested in an alloy cover too. The one on my new X300 is rubbish. What were Jag thinking using magnesium for the cover? Really dumb!!!!!

Sorry guys, I think I have misled everyone!! My new covers are MAGNESIUM!! they are original "new old stock" parts

Don't know why I said alloy. I guess because it's what makes sense ...

But that's why I bought 2. Because although they are brand new, I don't know how long one will last for.

I resprayed one of mine and I will look up the paint I used for it and let you know. It came in a can and looks original. I was also able to epoxy a flaw in one of the spark plug holes so many of the flaws we are finding on the covers can be repaired. I will look up the paint I used and get that posted. I would spray the complete top coil cover gray and then use model paint that matches the orig green and thin it out if needed and use a very small foam brush to apply. Use light coats and keep on top surface and should work very nicely.
