Handbrake help please
I guess I'm missing something obvious but even with the car in N the rear hubs won't rotate to access the adjustment pawl. Is there some kind of locking mechanism I need to release?
All the info I can find online simply says rotate the hub until the adjustment pawl is visible.
I need to get the discs off. Pulling my hair out! What's left of it.
Cheers

Yep. Thanks for that. The part of the mechanism between the handbrake lever and the quadrant wasn't releasing fully. I sprayed WD40 in every place I could, loosened it at the yoke and yanked the handle about 50 times really fast and eventually it freed itself. Not sure why it would stick at that part of the mechanism as its inboard and technically in the dry.
Really good news
Thanks for the help guys.

Del,
If the handbrake mechanism has been seized on, the shoes will have been wearing down.
Normally they last for ages because they are only in contact with the inside of the hub with the vehicle stationary and there's no rotation to wear the friction material.
Provided the handbrake releases OK now and holds the vehicle on an incline, there's no immediate rush but it's one to add to the list when you come to service the rear brake pads and discs.

Yep. Definitely needs further attention in the future. Will give it a complete overhaul later with new cable and shoes but at least now it can go for an MOT.
Just out of curiosity, how easy is it to get to the mechanism under the carpet behind the drivers seat? Looks like the whole rear trim panel needs to come out to release the carpet enough. Also how are the chrome sill trims held in place?

To do anything with the carpet, the front seats and the centre console have to come out.
The 'Jaguar' plate on the sill trims is glued in place and the sill trim itself has fixing screws. See post #2 in this thread for removal details:
