Default Hard reset on 2006 XK8

Does anyone know if a hard " Reset" will work to clear codes on 2006 XK8? By hard reset i mean taking off the battery cables & touching the 2 disconnected ends together. I already tried it once ( didn,t work) Now i,mn told to also blow horn & turn on lights With battery disconnected as the
re is/are capacitors that retain codes when battery change is made. BTW, I have fixed most if not all of the known issues. I don,t want to have to buy new parts for the car. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum 65Pontiacnut,

A hard reset will only clear 'learned adaptions' such as fuel trims and window travel limits. It is not a procedure for clearing DTC's. I recommend you post the codes for advice on how to resolve them.

Please follow this link New Member Area - Intro a MUST - Jaguar Forums - Jaguar Enthusiasts Forum to the New Member Area - Intro a MUST forum and post some information about yourself and your vehicle for all members to see. In return you'll get a proper welcome and some useful advice about posting to the forum.

If the faults are fixed the MIL will go off (after 3+ warm ups) and later on the codes will be auto-erased. No need to do anything.
