Finally have my XK8 squared away into a really good driver, but I’ve come to the conclusion that I need to replace my drivers seat. I mostly drive the car between Dallas and Wichita (5 hours) and after less than an hour they kill my back. For context I have a fractured vertebrae, two herniated discs, and sciatica, so my back is pretty effed up. I typically feel best in a very supportive and bolstered sport seat, like a Recaro, which is pretty much the polar opposite of the standard XK8 seats. Has anyone swapped their stock seat for a quality aftermarket seat like a Recaro?

 

Hi Matt, I sympathize. Hey while you're lookin for a replacement this might help.
Underneath the front seats is a rubber membrane, maybe 8x10 inches, that covers the bottom of the seat pad. When this deteriorates and splits, you lose a lot of seat comfort.

I don't think any of us have found spare replacements, but its easy enough to fashion a replacement using shower/tub underlayment from home depot. It works great in my 98. Cost about $20 and 30 minutes of time over 2 days(drying time).

It makes a pretty big difference comfortwise.

Thanks John, I actually already checked mine based on a forum thread from the past and it’s in mint condition. This weekend I increased the front spacer height to give the seat base a little more angle, seems a little better but still not great.
