Default Headlamp Issue - wiring?

Hi folks,

Regarding my 2004 XK8:

My passenger side low beam (HID's) went out.
Bought replacement bulb, no workie.
Checked & replaced engine fuses 6, 8, 19 & 21 - all good.
moved new bulb to driver side - new bulb works, thus, not bulb.

What now?

As always, thanks very much for sharing your experience and wisdom.

The ballast. If it's not the bulb or fuse it is almost always the ballast. They only last around 3000-5000 hours. They die just like any ballast in a commercial florescent light. I recently had to replace both in my 2004, so the timing is right.

Ballast, huh? Ok, thanks. Just one follow-up question, where is the ballast located?

Remove headlamp assembly (3 bolts/screws - 2 on top, one underneath accessed through wheel arch panel), separate headlamp washer (two pull tabs), and unplug the single headlamp harness. Turn lamp assembly upside down, there are 6 torx screws holding the ballast in. Remove those screws and unplug the two wiring harnesses for the ballast.
I can remove or re-install the headlamp in about 5 minutes now, but the first time took hours.

Try looking here:

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ts-data-29800/

Look for the "Headlamps (HID and Halogen)" heading about 1/3 of the way down the page.

That should get you started.

Default Does the 1998 XK8 have a Ballast?

I have the same issue, replaced Fuse and Bulb, but my Low Beam on Driver's side (US Left Side) still dose not work. I have 1998 XK8. Would this year models have a Ballast? The bulb replacement is H1 and I thought this was a standard Halogen?

If you have fitted an H1 bulb that is Halogen.

Both left and right dip beam are switched by the same relay (#5) and then pass through two fuses to the light units and bulbs. Fuse #8 for the left and #6 for the right, both 10A. Relay and fuses are in the engine compartment fuse box, left side behind the windscreen washer reservoir.
If your RH dip beam is OK you need to check the connections/wiring and earthing to the LH headlight unit.
The manual shows both dip and main beams sharing the same earth connection. I take it the main beam is OK on the left side?

Default Issue Resolved - Ground

First and foremost, thanks for your suggestion. Fuse did blow out and was replaced, upon further examination (took it out to get ready for summer months), the ground wire was loose on the connector to the housing. Female Connecter. Replaced connector and all is good. Thanks Again!
