Default Headlight Half moon piece

My 2004 XK8 front left headlight lens has a silvered half moon piece sticking out about 4 inches on a plastic strut. It can be pushed back in, but it can be easily pulled back out. What is this thing and can I repair it myself?

Default Headlight Powerwash cover

Yep it’s an easy fix. It attaches to the headlamp power wash which comes goes out when you squirt washer fluid on windscreen. Probably the washer extender unit has come out/off the recess in the bottom of the headlamp lense unit. Fix that first and then re attach the mirror assembly

Powerwash sticking in the deployed position (right hand illustration):

It extends under washer fluid pressure and should retract itself. Could just need cleaning or could be a broken return spring.

Another thing that may be just a little confusing is that when you wash the windows the headlight washers do NOT work every time but every 8? windscreen washes.

Also if your going to separate the front part of the headlight for the rear portion via the clips on top heat them first. If you dont they will probably snap. Take a look...... How to remove and seperate your headlight.
