Default Heater pump

I am sure somewhere on this forum this information exists, but I cant seem to find it!! Is there any information at all about the dis-assembly of a XKR heater pump? The pump on my 2003 is not working and is not clogged. I am figuring the brushes are worn out. I don't want to destroy it getting apart. Someone help, its getting cold here in Ohio.

Thanks in advance, Neil

My pump is already bypassed, and is located at the front end of the car under the airbox. Easy to get to so I have it out looking to rebuild it or at least put new brushes in. The valve is on the firewall, not so easy to get to. I would rather fix the thing the right way if I can. Found a rebuild for an older pump on this site, but it comes apart fairly easy, the later models not so much. Somebody has to know how to get them apart??

I've got it removed sitting in my garage, put in a plumbing connector where the valve was. I need to know how to take it apart and rebuild it. That's what I need.

The link is great but my heater pump, I guess because its an XKR, is mounted under the airbox left front side of the engine. Fairly easy to get to. Ive hooked it to a battery and it does not run at all. I figure the brushes are worn out. The impeller does still turn and nothing is clogged.

Thanks for the help, Neil

Might be out of line here, but are you looking at the inter-cooler pump, instead of the heater pump? My (very superficial) understanding is that XKRs have a pump specifically for the purpose of circulating water in the inter-cooler, and that is separate from the heater pump described in the link. As an XK8 person, I can't easily check...

There is a picture in this thread.

On both the XK8 and XKR the auxiliary heater pump is on the firewall just above the transmission. I think fmertz may be correct in that you are looking at the wrong pump.

This link on Gus' site shows the heater pump location for both the XK8/XKR. JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

OK, now that I think about it your probably right. I didn't know that "everything has its own pump, and there all the same in appearance. Wow!! I feel like a dumb ***!!

Hi Jules: Don't feel bad, these Jags make us all feel that way. If you have no heat it's either the heater/AC valve is stuck closed or the heater pump is not running. In your XKR it may be that both pumps need new brushes. In my case (XK8) I bypassed the valve and pump and now have tons of heat. A manual shut-off has to be installed in the bypass hose so the AC will work next summer. I also unplugged the electrical connectors to the valve and pump, and there are no trouble lights as a result.

Hey John,

Thanks for the advice. I had seen where you had done that modification when I was searching for the pump disassembly help. That may be a last resort for me if I can't find something for the fix. I know the heater pump is a pain to access. I was surprised I had not seen anyone else comment on the supercharger pump considering it not working would decrease performance at least to some degree. I suppose I will figure it out eventually.
BTW Jules is my wife, for whom I bought the car. She is pictured in some of my album pics. My name is Neil, I'm the one who gets to stick his head under the hood, and anywhere else on the car that needs attention.

Take care, Neil
