Default Help - Convertible Top works great up and down but sticks when first opening

Hello all,

Ive got a 2005 convertible XKR. The top seems to work fine through all of its up and down motions and even closes the latch properly.

My problem is when I'm first trying to open the top. I have to give it a push/nudge up for the latch to disengage then the top will go down

Any ideas as to what may be causing this?

thanks!

Remove the cover and get some lubricant on the latch arms. The latch will push the top up normally as the latch opens.

Not 100% sure if they are related but my convertible top exhibited the same problems not to long before I experienced the green shower. My thinking was that the hydraulic hose at the latch was slightly leaking which caused the delay in opening. They can probably leak a bit and have the fluid stay up in the console without a full-on green shower. You definitely want to take the trim pieces off to inspect the latch and hoses. If they are starting to fray or you see any fluid I would recommend replacing them before the dreaded shower. Definitely not fun to clean up!

Let us know what you end up finding out and best of luck! If you end up replacing the hoses there is a series of videos on YouTube that show the whole procedure and a wealth of info on the forums. I was able to do the job myself and it took most of my Saturday to knock it out. Top works great now and it no longer needs a nudge to open.

Lubricate the two roof lift ram shafts.
